She enjoys and competes in several sports, including wheelchair basketball, surfing, hockey and tennis. She is the co-founder of California Adaptive Rowing and a popular rowing coach. Barbara Fiege Barbara Fiege is the Director of Interscholastic Athletics for Los Angeles Unified School District. She oversees the competitive athletics program for 62 schools. Barbara began her career as a physical education teacher at Dorsey High School in 1975. She has coached varsity and junior varsity basketball, softball and volleyball. In 1986, she became the Athletic Director for Belmont High School, the first woman in LAUSD history to hold that position. As one of nine children, she learned the value of sports participation early and has been a strong advocate of equity in sports for many years.
