Colleges reap windfall from big-league turmoil
MLB unrest compels more prep stars, college juniors than usual to choose school.
By BRIAN LANDMAN, Times Staff Writer
published January 24, 2003 Florida State baseball coach Mike Martin took one last look at the lineup card he had optimistically and excitedly filled out months earlier, grabbed a pencil and furiously erased it. Matt Lynch, P. Gone. Eddy Martinez-Esteve, 3B. See ya. Mark Sauls, P. Oh well. But then sweeping off a mound of what-might-have-been shards from his desk had become an annual rite of early summer for Martin and just about every college coach. The major-league draft has had that effect. Lynch, his ace right-hander and junior, was selected in the seventh round by San Diego, and high-school signees Martinez-Esteve and Sauls were taken in the third by Seattle and Minnesota, respectively. Players taken that high typically sign professional contracts and likely would have if baseball weren't spiraling toward a work stoppage.

30. Archery Development In Sports Colleges
file not always ideal !). Archery development in sports collegesPDF Format application form. Any problems then please email me.
http://www.rayleightownarcheryclub.co.uk/development.html
Archery Development reproduced by kind permission of John Willson Is your club thriving? How often do you have new members? Are you looking to develop your club? If you would like to be part of this new initiative being set up to promote sports in specialised colleges in the U K then here is the opportunity to do so. As part of the governments sports development programme sixty colleges have been given sports status. This means that they have agreed to meet a drawn up and agreed syllabus where they will be monitored to meet those targets. As archery is a minor sport, but has the advantage of being assessable to all people to compete on equal terms, it is one that is put high on the list for development. Large amounts of funding are being made available and all of the colleges are keen to make it happen. No you will not have to sell them the idea that has already been done. For the past Three years Rayleigh Town Archery Club have been working along side the colleges preparing the way, developing the schemes of work. At the same time S.C.A.S has been preparing their own development plan, which supports this programme, and views it as a way forward for the future of archery. Discussions are also taking place with G.N.A.S on the best ways to launch, and manage the project. It therefore is important that the launch of this project be well documented, organised, and promoted, to ensure that our sport is taken to these colleges in a professional manner. It will mean a lot of hard work, but the rewards will be great. Time required will vary, two sessions for Juniors and one Adult, all out of school hours, in return club shooting facilities will be offered Free. The main focus being, sport is promoted into the community, which is the objective of this project, and it is this, the sports council will be monitoring very closely.

CORNWALL LEADS WAY IN PROVIDING TOP QUALITY SPORT EDUCATION AS TWO SCHOOLS ARE RE-DESIGNATED AS SPECIALIST SPORTS COLLEGES
The re-designation is recognition of the excellent sport education programmes introduced by both schools and will mean each will receive more than £300,000 over the next three years to further develop sports related initiatives. Both schools have implemented a wide range of exciting and energetic projects since they became Sports Colleges, and staff and Governors are looking forward to building on these projects and developing even closer links with their partner primary schools and community groups in the future. Poltair pledged to provide sporting opportunities for all when it received Sports College status four years ago and since then the St Austell secondary has created an impressive range of sport and physical activities for its own pupils and strengthened links with primary schools, post 16 students and the local community. "Poltair already has an enviable reputation for both top quality academic achievement and sporting excellence" said Peter Bradbury. "We will now be able to develop and extend this work and build on our links with other schools and the local community. I am very grateful for the support of Poltair’s parents and Governors".
