My Parents Were Undercover Square Dancers
An investigation into the dark world of square dancing.
BY MARK STIBICH
STUDENT.COM CORRESPONDENT Now that the Unabomber is caught, Americans are startled as they learn of the depth and scope of the FBI investigation. The FBI, desperate to penetrate the layers of secrecy cloaking America's sub-cultures, depended on many fine citizens for undercover work. The Beer Lady's own parents were approached several years ago to aid the FBI by infiltrating the highly secret and ritualistic cult known nation-wide as Square Dancing [ed. About this article
The dancers on BBC-1 are great. But the balloon and globes were better. Kirk Northrop reports. Square dancing Since the BBC launched their most recent set of idents on Good Friday this year, very little has been said regarding the new idents in the media. But the change is not something to be forgotten, or taken lightly as it changed the face of the station forever. Let us go back to the point of an ident. The word means identification, and when we use this in terms of television presentation we are regarding a visual and usually audible identification of the station. This is the first place where the BBC has gone wrong. Previous to 1997 there was just a single ident and a clock, and even after that the balloon was the focus of the idents, with the location and what was on the balloon purely secondary. With the dancers there is no common theme to the idents - people have pointed out the colour red, the logo and the fact that all the people are dancing, but none of these strike me as an icon to speak of, possibly least of all the red box.

The new BBC idents Square dancing Since the BBC launched their most recent set of idents on Good Friday this year, very little has been said regarding the new idents in the media. The music is also an important part of the identification, and although the same piece of music is there every time, the difference between the music in the Ballet and Acrobats idents is so great that it is very difficult to hear the common 'jingle' in the Acrobats Ident. This means that you would need to learn all the pieces of music and the images on screen to identify the channel each time.

91. Benefits Of Square Dancing
square dancing is Universal . square dancing is low stress physical exercise- Add 10 Years to your Life! -. We all know that exercise is good for you.
http://fun2dance.com/Benefits.htm
Square Dancing is Universal - No matter where you go in the world square dancing is the same. The movements have been standardized and are called in the same way, regardless of language. The dance programs used are all standardised and no matter where in the world you learn - you can still dance the same in other parts of the world. You may not be able to converse with some of the other dancers you meet - but you can interact with them. Your Square Dance family truly includes the whole world! Square Dancing is low stress physical exercise - Add 10 Years to your Life! - We all know that exercise is good for you. But it all seems like hard work, isn't there a form of exercise that is also fun and doesn't seem like hard work? Yes there is - it's called square Dancing. The physical effort made in square dancing results in square dancers outliving the average person by ten years! Of course, there are many alternate healthful activities, notably regular brisk long walks, working out at the gym, bicycling, swimming, etc. But after a few months, most people find those routines difficult to stick to. Contrast such workouts with three hours of square dancing that fly by with calories burned equal to a comparable painless 3-1/2 mile run. And it's so much fun, you can't wait to come back for more! It's a different type of dancing - Though many men avoid dancing in any form, in actuality, square dancing presents very few of the hated elements. Though square dancing is dancing in the sense of partners, trappings, and music, it's actually like precision drill stepping performed with partners. Instead of a drill sergeant, there is a "Caller" who sings directions set to the music of popular songs. Following the Callers directions, the dancer's moves are all coordinated. This contrasts with ballroom dancing or swing dancing, where men are under pressure to provide a capable lead... and most would simply like to avoid that scene. In square dancing, the dancers responsibility is to simply follow the "calls" and be where they are supposed to be at the moment they are supposed to be there. Novices can walk there; energetic dancers can boogie there - according to your mood at the moment.
