41. The Internet's Culture Via Privacy, Encryption And Legal Issues
Interests covered include Internet Culture, Privacy, Encryption, Christianity and stamp collecting.
JESUS THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH The story, the 'evidences' and the arguments for His RESURRECTION from the dead convince me of a super-(more)-natural power in existence. My primary (current?) interest besides collecting stamps and taking an interest in the Taxicab Industry in Los Angeles is in understanding the effective use and missuse of strong encryption in the personal PC enviroment and would like to hear fror actual users about the various applications available and the how and why of particular setups - and processes of 'authentication'. (an interesting subject in the world of stamp collecting too) ...Not to mention, of course, the issues of privacy vs. '.gov'... Some informative studies, books and articles I've found are listed in the links below. - (Some labels are my own opinion - suggestions welcome) A Rape In Cyberspace (Or TINYSOCIETY, and How to Make One) by Julian Dibble The Hacker Crackdown : Law And Disorder On The Electronic Frontier A little 'investigative history' by Bruce Sterling (science fiction author, privace advocate) alternate archives:

Important recent updates to the Museum site include: The National Bank Note Company expended considerable effort preparing designs for the 1869 issue, going so far as to print entire sheets of yet-to-be approved stamps in a wide variety of colors. I became a stamp collector soon after I moved with my parents and sister to the tiny village of Arenas Valley near Silver City, New Mexico. It had been called Whiskey Creek, apparently because whiskey barrels had once floated down a nearby arroyo from an upstream still. The name was changed when postal officials said that "Whiskey Creek" wouldn't look proper on a cancellation. So it became "Arenas Valley." That was appropriate, because arenas means sand in Spanish, and Arenas Valley was a very sandy place. They might also have chosen "Jackrabbit Valley," "Yuccatown," or simply "Tumbleweed" (or their Spanish equivalents). It wouldn't have mattered because most residents continued to call it Whiskey Creek. Today, Arenas Valley is a sad little bedroom community where most people seem to have forgotten the virtues of fresh paint and pulling weeds. It's hard to imagine that once there were orchards and neatly kept homes and gardens.
    The village post office
I remember the Arenas Valley Post Office as the place where I bought my first stamps and got my first mail. It was a one-room building with a gritty linoleum floor. The postmistress was named Hazel, a thin slip of a woman, a single mother of three or perhaps even four equally skinny children. Hazel always appeared to be near collapse from illness or exhaustion or sadness or perhaps all three. But she was a kind woman who liked us kids (I hope that she has forgiven me for the incident with the large bull snake), and she was a postmistress of high professional standards.
