The following colleges are sending representatives to WHS next week. Please read through the list of schools and decide if you would like to learn more about any of these institutions. You should attend these meeting prepared to ask questions. Meetings take place in the Guidance Conference Room across from the Guidance Office. Please sign-up on the College sign-up sheet in Guidance and take a pass with you. You MUST report to your scheduled class and have your teacher sign your pass before reporting to Guidance (teachers would like to know you are planning on attending at least one day in advance). Wyoming Seminary's College Counseling Program As a college preparatory school, our underlying goal is to prepare students for college. The College Guidance Office plays an integral role in this process by assisting the student in finding the most appropriate college "match." That sounds easy enough, but it is actually a complex process requiring self-reflection, time, and visits to college campuses. Here is a brief overview of the college counseling program. Sophomore Year
College counseling begins during the sophomore year with a series of group meetings about the PSAT's, the SAT's and the college search process. College testing begins as the sophomore year progresses with the PSAT in October and possibly a SAT II: Subject Test in the spring. Each sophomore is assigned a college counselor with whom they meet individually in the spring of the sophomore year. These meetings establish a rapport between counselor and student, provide an opportunity to review academic and extracurricular scheduling, and result in a short list of colleges for sophomores and their parents to visit during the summer before their junior year to expose them to the range of college environments. Junior Year
Senior Year
In preparation for the senior year, students should return to school with a refined list consisting of colleges and universities to which they want to apply. Many college applications are available in the summer and early fall. As soon as students receive applications, they should begin completing them. The application process is time consuming, especially the essay, so students can begin writing essays and completing available applications during the summer to spare themselves additional stress in the fall when their busy with academic and extracurricular work.

Transcript
Although there are no specific subject requirements, you are urged to undertake the strongest course of study available in your secondary school. Most applicants to Dartmouth present very strong secondary school transcripts that include four years of English and mathematics (usually through calculus), three years of social science and laboratory science, and at least three years of a foreign language. Your record of achievement in secondary school is also important in our deliberations. The majority of applicants present scholastic records that suggest they can successfully complete the academic work required by the College. While we have no minimum grade point average or class rank required for consideration, approximately 90% of those admitted rank in the first decile of their high school class.
Standardized Testing
All applicants to Dartmouth, including those who apply from foreign countries, are required to take either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) or the examination of the American College Testing Program (ACT). In addition, all applicants must submit the results from any three SAT II Subject Tests. All testing must be completed by January of the senior year in high school. If standardized testing is repeated, the Admissions Committee only considers your highest scores.

Transfer Eligibility
Dartmouth classifies you as a transfer applicant if you have spent at least one year at another college or university. Admitted transfer applicants enroll at Dartmouth for a minimum of six academic terms-as either sophomores or juniors, depending on prior course work, in order to complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree. Please note that offers of transfer admissions cannot be deferred to the following year. If you already have completed an undergraduate degree, you are ineligible for transfer admission.
Transfer Application
You can download a transfer application here Forms 1 and 2 should be submitted as soon as you decide to apply for transfer admission. Do not wait until you have completed the other forms. A non-refundable application fee of $75.00 must be submitted with Form 1-2 unless you are requesting a fee waiver (see Form 1-2 for conditions and instructions). A check or money order should be made payable to Dartmouth College and must be attached to the Form 1-2. Forms 3 and 5: Complete and submit Form 5 to your college or university registrar and Form 3 to your high school guidance office. Request to have your official transcripts sent directly to the Dartmouth Admissions Office.

The developmental guidance and counseling program is an essential and integral element in the total education program. Middle school counselors, under the leadership of the director of student services, deliver a full range of services. These include individual and group team-based counseling, academic guidance, crisis intervention, career awareness activities, coordination of standardized testing, parent and school consultation and conferences, special needs screening, and gifted/talented identification. The middle school counselors help students make the transitions from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school. Guidance counselors strive to provide diverse and developmentally appropriate opportunities for their middle school students to be academically successful, capable, increasingly self-reliant and resourceful. Primary and Secondary Administration
Primary and secondary public schools are governed by local school districts and their boards. Policies and regulations tend to be uniform across all schools within a district except for charter schools and certain differences respecting grade levels and special needs schools. Individual schools are administered within the confines of these general requirements, so autonomy is limited. Guidance Department Counseling
Cobb offers both individual, parent, and small group counseling sessions. Although individual counseling consumes the largest part of the counseling day, small groups are held dealing with divorce, death, academics, and other assorted problems. Individual counseling includes personal, social, academic, and vocational sessions. Students and parents are welcome anytime in the guidance office. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 488-3363 or E-mail-durrenceg@mail.cobb.leon.k 12.fl.us Scheduling After the master schedule has been determined, guidance is responsible for changing student placement. A schedule change may be initiated by a parent, teacher, or administrator. The general policy is that students should be moved only to improve their academic placement (regular to advanced class or advanced to regular class). Such changes depend on availability of space and class size. Changes in electives are not a high priority after the first week of school. Testing The guidance staff is in charge of standardized testing at Cobb. They also do individualized testing for screening purposes. Test interpretation and analysis are available for parents and other qualified personnel.

The American College Testing Program (ACT) is a comprehensive, guidance-oriented service that helps colleges, high schools, and students in transition from high school to college. Students participate in the program by completing an educational/biographical questionnaire, an interest inventory, and four tests of educational development in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Natural Sciences. After analyzing the information obtained, ACT prepares reports for use by students, high schools, and colleges in career and college planning, admissions, and placement, and academic advising. More than 2700 colleges and universities and other agencies accept ACT scores in lieu of SAT 1 Scores. The ACT is an achievement test. Achievement tests often reward the student who works hard more than an aptitude test like the SAT 1. Juniors achieving less than satisfactory results on a SAT I taken in the Spring may wish to consider taking the ACT during the Fall of the Senior year. The ACT is offered several times during the year at locations throughout the Columbia area to include Spring Valley High School.
