Now is not the time to roll out of bed, throw on whatever's closest to you and make a mad dash to your testing lab. Standardized tests like the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and American College Testing (ACT) Assessment are important variables that can round out your college application or put you on shaky ground. Standardized tests are an important part of the admissions process at many colleges. These exams offer colleges a consistent measure of your academic potential against other students. So all other factors being equal, these tests are likely to heavily influence your chances of getting into a particular school. Your SAT and ACT scores need to be up to the standards of the university to which you're seeking admission. Some schools admit only those with the best scores and encourage students to take the test more than once. To ensure the highest possible score, it is very important to prepare for the tests. The Tests PSAT SAT 1 SAT II: Subject Tests ... Test Taking Tips The Tests There are several types of standardized tests. The two major tests used for college entrance exams are the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the American College Testing (ACT) Assessment.

Do you have any transition tips to help my child adjust to middle school? A. Here are some steps you can do to make her transition easier. Begin letting your child make decisions about how to spend and use his time (within limits of course) so that he can learn how to build play time or free time, homework, TV, lessons, sports, and social time into each week. Balance is the key! Build open communication with your child. Even if your child tells your everything now, that will change. Being a good listener keeps these channels open. Greetings from LCDS College Guidance!!
This will be a busy but exciting year for all seniors. Many of you contacted me directly or indirectly to express concerns about completing the Common Application , saying that you are not applying to any schools that use it. That’s fine. In part, the reason that we ask you to fill it out is to provide us, your counselors, with up-to-date information about you—and to give us a draft of an essay so that we can help you with writing skills. Even if the topic is not one on your particular application, you may be able to use some variation of it for your personal statement. The essay you write for the Common Application is merely a rough draft. The bottom line is that we will not be able to schedule your individual meeting until you submit the application. We are making appointments in the order that we receive the applications, so it is in your best interests to finish this assignment as soon as possible. This deadline is particularly critical for anyone planning to apply Early Decision.

TESTS
Now that that matter is clarified, we need to think about standardized tests. The

If Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) is suspected, the student will be referred to a child psychiatrist or developmental pediatrician for an evaluation. At the High School , students with documentation approved by GDS may request accommodations for standardized testing (e.g. PSAT, SAT, AP, ACT). In order for students to receive accommodations, the documentation must meet specific criteria, including the academic history, rationale for accommodations and a diagnosis that meets the DSM guidelines. Due to the variability of the reports, we are providing you with guidelines set forth by College Board and ACT.
