It is a very lovely piece! February 10 - Mary Farmer's photos of the Tolkien seminar are posted here February 2 - AP newswire story on School's Tolkien seminar. Appeared in Washington Times and other newspaper s. February 1 - We just completed the seminar on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings in Adamstown, Maryland. A highlight was our "gisting" the tale so that we all took turns in round-robin storytelling, with a one minute limit on each of the 62 chaptesr. We should have gone for 62 minutes, but we got carried away. The whole Lord of the Rings, as told by our storytellers, was 84 minutes. Whew! Pockets of civilization hold out great cities like Dacartha, Arn Muhr and Diodet pushing back the Maelstrom and the mayhem of a crazed, shifting world. Some forces welcome the disorder of the world and embrace the power of the Storm, and others accept it as inevitable. An Empire held it together once, long ago. Now all that remains are the machines and monuments left behind. The Maelstrom is a whole world, and it's also a great storm so strong it changes the shape of the world as it passes over. Adventures in the Maelstrom can be about almost anything, from swashbuckling and treasure hunting to travel and exploration. There are powerful mages and ancient ghosts, courts full of intrigue and ruins of a lost empire. Download an OVERVIEW of the Maelstrom world Maelstrom Storytelling

Total Physical Response Storytelling: A Communicative Approach to Language Learning by Valeri Marsh
edited by Carol Gaab and Contee Seely Language teachers for years have relied on Total Physical Response (TPR) as the most effective method for long-term retention of vocabulary. Popularized in the 60's and 70's by Dr. James Asher, TPR allows students to acquire vocabulary in a manner similar to how a child learns his or her first language. All language input is immediately comprehensible, often hands-on, and allows students to pass through a silent period whereby they build a comprehension base before ever being asked to speak. Once language is internalized, production emerges, thus setting TPR apart from traditional "listen-and-repeat" methods. In a TPR lesson, teachers model actions which students then mimic as they simultaneously hear vocabulary words and commands in the target language. As a particular action is associated with each vocabulary word or phrase, students rapidly and naturally acquire language while establishing long-lasting associations between the brain and the muscles. Students who learn language via TPR will not soon forget it. Nevertheless, TPR by itself has three serious limitations: 1. It is mainly in the imperative mode, generally excluding the rest of the target language's sentence forms.

Starring Selma Blair Paul Giamatti Leo Fitzpatrick John Goodman , and Julie Hagerty Storytelling is comprised of two separate stories set against the sadly comical terrain of college and high school, past and present. Following the paths of its young hopeful/troubled characters, it explores the issues of sex, race, celebrity and exploitation. (Fine Line Features) Rolling Stone / Peter Travers: A movie that advances the career of a demonstrably gifted filmmaker, a fearlessly funny movie whose laughs draw blood, a bracingly provocative movie that won't apologize for its bad temper. Film Threat / Chris Gore: A masterful comedy that will divide audiences, but it left me laughing hysterically. I hope that doesn’t make you think I’m a sick bastard, but if so, piss off.
