    Substitute teaching cost ineffective
Logically, as the degree of misbehavior increases, the degree to which the students actually learn anything decreases. In the worst cases, the period will be 100 percent wasted. Cases like these are extreme. On average, the period will be about one-fourth wasted.
In more advanced classes, even if students are obedient, pay attention to the sub and do the work they are assigned, they may still learn nothing new at all, because their sub is not an expert in the subject he or she is there to teach. As a result of all this wasted time, the teacher will spend the next day or two playing catch-up in order to realign with his or her curriculum.
Why then, does the school spend money on a procedure that accomplishes so little?
Several cheaper alternatives become apparent when the positive results of a day of substitute teaching are examined. First, on a sub day, most of the class will attain a vague understanding of a new concept. Assigning a few pages of reading from a textbook can do this. Second, most of the class will attain a better understanding of an old concept. Handing out a worksheet can make this happen. Third, roll is called. Sadly, that is about all that gets done.

    • Secure a copy of the school district calendar for the various districts where you sub. You can see in advance when they don't have school so you can schedule other things in your life.
    • A good day subbing starts out early, like the night before. Don't stay up or out late on a school night. If you're rested you'll do a better job in the classroom.
    • A visitor to Phil's Place suggests getting up early, like 4:30 am, to be ready to go whenever a sub call comes in. They read while waiting for a sub call after they are ready. This sounds like a good idea.

    Substitute Teacher License or Permit
What is an emergency substitute teaching license? That term refers to the 3-year Substitute Teaching Permit which allows individuals with a non-teaching bachelor's degree to accept short-term (20 days or less) teaching assignments. I hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited university but it isn't in teaching. Can I substitute teach in Wisconsin? If you hold a non-teaching bachelor's degree, you are eligible for the 3-year substitute permit. First, you must go through the interview process at a school district. If they wish to hire you, then submit a PI 1602-EL application (the district's section requesting your licensure must be completed), a transcript of your bachelor's degree, and the $100 application fee. I am interested in substitute teaching in a public school district. I have an education degree and held a regular 5-year teaching license at one time. However, I let my license lapse since I have been working outside of education for some years. Would I qualify to substitute teach without a license renewal? If I do need to renew my license, what is the process? As long as you previously held a regular Wisconsin teaching license, you are eligible for a

Applying for Substitute Teaching: Substitute teaching is an excellent way to learn about our schools while allowing principals and teachers to get to know you. To qualify as a substitute teacher, you need a college degree, but do not need formal teacher training. If you qualify as a substitute teacher, you automatically qualify as a special education instructional assistant (SEIA) substitute, providing even more employment opportunities. An automated substitute calling system helps you manage your work schedule by allowing you to call at any time, day or night, to find jobs. When calling to offer work, the system uses your subject area and location preferences, to call you for jobs on the days you have selected. With one telephone call, you can change the days you work, review teacher instructions for previously accepted assignments and even use a call forwarding option to avoid missing out on desirable jobs. For more Information about Substitute Teaching, call our substitute office on 301-279-3280. or call (301) 279-3515 for application materials. Subsitute Teacher Rates:
