Aims to develop, promote and market methodologies, technologies, and products that conserve natural resources and advance our planet towards sustainability through the use of solar energy.

The Mission of EcoSystems ...
... is to develop, promote and market methodologies, technologies, and products that conserve natural resources and advance our planet towards sustainability through the use of solar energy.
We specialize in technology development: We employ the principles of Ecological Economics : Our planet is experiencing a crisis of unprecedented proportions: with increasing demands for resources of dwindling quality and increasing costs of extraction, we are consuming our "seed corn" and our wastes are piling up beyond our planet's capacity to absorb them. This is not sustainable in the long term. There are debates about how much time we have, but it is clear that humanity is challenging the limits of the natural order as never before. Virtually by definition, one of the solutions to achieving sustainability is the transition from an economy based on oil to one based on solar energy. Employing this solution, our programs and projects are based on two primary principles:

Sustainability, Energy and Environmental Technologies Program (UMWELT)
Medium-term Objectives Under the Sustainability, Energy and Environmental Technologies Program (UMWELT) The objectives, work program, and results of the PSA program (precursory program of UMWELT) were evaluated repeatedly by external expert commissions. In these evaluations, the program was always deemed necessary and important. UMWELT represents the heart of the "Sustainable Development" section in the HGF Environmental and Geo-research Area. Current State of the Work Under the UMWELT Program, conceptual studies and technical developments are accomplished in the fields of energy-saving conversion technologies, thermal waste management, and recycling and disposal of wastes for a minimum consumption of resources. Program design is based on the principle of sustainability. On the one hand, systems-analytical approaches are applied to identify those areas of man’s acting, which are particularly relevant to sustainability in Germany as an industrialized country, and to determine the consequences and possibilities or options of actions available in these fields to bring about a sustainable development. On the other hand, technical innovations with a future application potential shall be provided for certain fields of sustainable development, in particular energy and environmental technologies. Systems-analytical work is carried out to select the topics to be dealt with, including among others developments in the fields of measurement technology, information technology, and toxicology.

Home The Changing Earth Hopi Prophecy Links Southwest Desert Sustainability Project (link) Marie Montessori How children learn John Taylor Gatto ... Learn in Freedom Links Freeing the Children....in an Unfree World I've been spending a lot of time thinking about and working at "raising free children".....in an unfree world. Big subject, freedom. The premise of course is that they (we) come in free at birth. We then become layered with intergenerational history, drama, intrigue. So, the real question is how do entities that come in free, become free again. Deciding who and what is "free", is presumptuous at best. No one is really free. At the very least, freedom suggests a sense of self knowingness that is the order of the day for one's life process: free to go about the business of "life purpose". Disregarding the impact of media, society, bad parenting and bad schools, attaining even rarified smidges of that "knowingness" is well, rarified. By default we have discovered what freedom is not. If, for instance, I were to promote personal freedom by a specific spiritual belief, platitude or inspired motivation for instance, I would be faced with the exposure of hypocrisy. But that in itself is OK ..... to be put under the heading "reality check" and the microscope of spiritual discernment.

  • Adding Insulation: Check the level of insulation in your exterior and basement walls, ceilings, attic, floors, and crawl spaces. Sealing Air and Moisture Leaks: Check for holes or cracks around your walls, ceilings, windows, doors, light and plumbing fixtures, switches, and electrical outlets that can leak air into or out of your home. Check for open fireplace dampers. Make sure your appliances and heating and cooling systems are properly maintained. Look for ways to use daylighting, reduce the time the lights are on, and replace incandescent bulbs and fixtures with compact fluorescent lamps or standard fluorescent lamps.

  • Replacing or Weatherizing Windows
just three trees, properly placed around the house, can save an average household between $100 and $250 in heating and cooling energy costs annually. Deciduous trees planted on the south and on the west will help keep your house cool in the summer and allow sun to shine in the windows in the winter. Deflect winter winds by planting evergreen trees and shrubs on the north and west sides of your house; deflect summer winds by planting on the south and west sides of your house.

Cato Policy Analysis No. 341 April 22, 1999
The Increasing Sustainability of Conventional Energy
by Robert L. Bradley Jr Robert L. Bradley Jr. is president of the Institute for Energy Research in Houston, Texas, and an adjunct scholar of the Cato Institute. An earlier version of this paper was presented at the 17th Congress of the World Energy Council in Houston, Texas, in September 1998. Executive Summary Environmentalists support a major phase-down of fossil fuels (with the near-term exception of natural gas) and substitution of favored "nonpolluting" energies to conserve depletable resources and protect the environment. Yet energy megatrends contradict those concerns. Fossil-fuel resources are becoming more abundant, not scarcer, and promise to continue expanding as technology improves, world markets liberalize, and investment capital expands. The conversion of fossil fuels to energy is becoming increasingly efficient and environmentally sustainable in market settings around the world. Fossil fuels are poised to increase their market share if environmentalists succeed in politically constraining hydropower and nuclear power. Artificial reliance on unconventional energies is problematic outside niche applications. Politically favored renewable energies for generating electricity are expensive and supply constrained and introduce their own environmental issues. Alternative vehicular technologies are, at best, decades away from mass commercialization. Meanwhile, natural gas and reformulated gasoline are setting a torrid competitive pace in the electricity and transportation markets, respectively.
