What does TEAC do?
Recent meetings have focused on how we can better prepare our undergraduates regarding assessment issues, discipline, and use of technology in the classroom; what we can do to convince outside reviewers that we are successful in preparing teacher candidates to be ethical and caring decision makers; and how to address various issues concerning diversity within the structure of our Conceptual Framework.
Who are the 2002-2003 TEAC members?

"I feel good about where the group is going with their heart and dedication, and am glad that I have a chance to be part of it. I’m concerned about how we can relate all this that we’ve been discussing here today to the real world."

Michigan Teacher Certification Advisory
Elementary Program Secondary Program Students Interesting Places ... Albion College home page Special Advisory In October, 1988, House Bill No. 5718, specifically Act No. 339, was approved by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State. The Act requires that all certification applicants pay a fee of $125.00 for the issuance of a Michigan teaching certificate. Albion College is not involved in the collection of the fee. A Detroit bank will bill the student, who then remits payment to the State of Michigan. The delay in payment will not extend the validity span of the certificate. Albion College can only recommend a student for certification (the State does not certify until the student sends the fee). In accordance with Public Act 96 of the Public Acts of 1995, it is a criminal offense to use or attempt to use, a college or university transcript that is fraudulently obtained, altered, forged, or other fraudulent credentials to obtain a teacher, school administrator, or school psychologist certificate, or other State Board approval.

A local teacher will use her language expertise to help students throughout California study foreign languages more efficiently. Noriko Nagumo, a kindergarten teacher at El Marino Language School, was recently appointed by the State Board of Education to serve as a member of the Instructional Materials Advisory Panel (IMAP), where she will help determine the instructional language resources used for the 2003 adoption of K-8 2003 Primary Foreign Language materials. As a member of IMAP, Nagumo will be responsible for evaluating the instructional resources used to teach foreign languages, which will result in the form of textbooks and other instructional materials for teachers and students. "It is such an accomplishment for Nori and our district to have one of our teachers serve on the Instructional Materials Advisory Panel," said Superintendent Laura McGaughey. "IMAP sees to it that our students are offered the best instructional materials to help them with their foreign language studies, and Nori will bring knowledge and experience to the board in making their decisions."

Clarke Teacher Named to National Academies Advisory Board
Hilsman Middle School math instructor Shareef Bacchus has been named to the Teacher Advisory Council of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
The Teacher Advisory Council serves as a vehicle for fully integrating the experiences of classroom teachers into the National Academies' deliberations on educational issues. The council allows teachers to provide their practical perspective on current issues and concerns to study committees, standing boards, and National Academies members and staff who address education-related matters.
"The Clarke County School District is excited that one of our teachers has been selected for this important and prestigious position," said Superintendent Lewis Holloway. "Mr. Bacchus is an excellent teacher in a school district full of excellent teachers. I'm sure that he will represent his colleagues in Clarke County and across the nation well at the National Academies."
The mission of the Teacher Advisory Council of the National Academies is to increase the usefulness, relevance, and communication of research to educational practice. In addition, the council provides advice about how other National Academies programs, initiatives, and recommendations can be most effectively implemented in schools and offers guidance about how the National Academies can best communicate with the teaching community in the United States.
In 2001 Bacchus was named the secondary-level mathematics teacher winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. The award, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and created by former President Jimmy Carter in 1983, is the nation's highest honor for K-12 math and science teachers.
