Parent-Teacher Organizations
NATIONAL PTA MISSION
The Mission of the PTA is threefold: To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental agencies and organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation. The Plainview-Old Bethpage School district is generously and faithfully supported by the Parent-Teacher Association. Thanks to the PTA's dedication to the welfare of children and the cause of public education, this community has had an outstanding record of public support for the highest quality education of our students. The PTA Council serves as a coordinating body that unites the efforts of the eight school-based PTAs and SEPTA. Membership of PTA Council is composed of delegates elected by each school's PTA. The Parent-Teacher Associations seek to bring together the home, the school, and the community in order to develop the cooperation necessary to secure for every child the highest advantages in physical, mental and social education. The PTAs extend a cordial welcome to all parents to join their membership and attend their meetings which are listed in the calendar.

Being A Professional Professional Organizations Teachers' professional associations range from local area groups and special interest committees to state, national, and international organizations. You could say that a local school department is a small-scale professional organization in that one aim of these groups is to provide an opportunity for collaboration and discussion among concerned professionals. However, more complex and diverse organizations exist on a larger scale as well. The largest of the professional organizations in the United States is the National Education Association , which was formed in 1870. Such associations have a variety of purposes: to improve teaching, to define and protect teacher rights, to disseminate professional information and news, and to influence legislation related to education. Many groups also publish educational journals, newsletters, and books. If you want to stay on top of issues in your discipline and profession, this is a place to start.
