CLINICAL COMPETENCIES FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY PERSONNEL:
A Guide to Assessment and Professional Development
"Clinical Competencies is working very well for us. It has given us a guideline with which to create a tailor-made program for our employees. The CD ROM version is great - we can email a copy of Clinical Competencies to each employee." Kathy Rock, Ancillary Services Manager, Spohn Physical Therapy and Rehab, Corpus Christi. "Clinical Competencies is an excellent tool for identifying weaknesses in physical therapy personnel. It incorporates specific skills into a comprehensive staff education program . My clinic managers are very pleased." David Wendeborn, PT, Director of Professional Services, Memorial City Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab, Houston. "Clinical Competencies is very easy to use. The hospital’s physical therapy personnel are accustomed to the format because it’s like the Blue MACS. I’d love to have a similar manual for speech and occupational therapy personnel." One of the most difficult responsibilities of the clinical director of any facility is to determine whether your staffers are clinically competent . CLASS INFORMATION
Course Name: PA 882A
Room Number: SRH 3.108
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This policy research project will provide students with a unique opportunity to work on pressing issues in education policy, particularly the intersections among school finance and other issues, such as standards and accountability and teacher quality. It will be informed by the Charles A. Dana Center’s work on education policy. By the end of this policy research project, students will:
  • Be familiar with fundamental concepts framing policy discussions about public education. Be able to do in-state and cross-state comparative analyses of education policy proposals. Understand the recent history and current landscape of education policy deliberations in Texas. Have worked with Texas policymakers and their staff on education policy issues.
The project for the fall semester will involve preparing briefing materials for a January 2003 workshop for legislative staff on pressing education policy issues facing the 78th Texas Legislature. In the fall semester this PRP will otherwise function like a seminar and will feature guest lectures from Texas policymakers and technical experts. In the spring semester, besides staffing the pre-session workshop, students will have the opportunity to work together on education policy issues in the context of an internship with a legislative committee, state office, or state agency.
