The Dapper Dans
They'll soon be celebrating 40 years at Disneyland. In the Disney theme parks around the world there are so many things that catch your eye. The architecture, the grand landscaping, and the overall scenery all draw each visitor into the mystical world of each park. But there is one more thing, I believe, that makes the Disney experience different from other theme parks. That element is the atmosphere talent groups carefully placed throughout the park.
The Disneyland Band Not only do these groups provide an escape from the perils of those long queues; they also offer a chance for the guests to become part of the show. Disney has had a long tradition of atmosphere talent groups, especially musical groups. The original Disneyland Band was only hired for a two week run, but with the favorable crowd response the band attained Walt immediately gave them an extension, which has run almost 45 years now.

http://web.nwe.ufl.edu/~wtilson/miodrag/theming.html
Theming is a design strategy employed to define and instrumentalize space, along with defining the physical attributes of the environment (scale, color, layout, iconic representation of architecture), all of the sensory and cognitive environmental stimuli (rides/attractions, sound, smell, texture, light) and the commodities sold (arts and crafts, food, costumes). The instrumentalization of space in theme parks is facilitated by the creation of themescapes and theaters . Both categories also facilitate spatialization of the ensemble of normative disciplinary procedures of control. Furthermore, this part of the dissertation discusses the employment of environmental psychology and behavioral studies in shaping theme parks as both symbolic constructs and material forms, and analyzes the manipulation of consumer-behavior patterns by environmental means. The design and planning of theme parks as material forms is discussed in relation to: the capacity of the conventional understanding of architecture in designing theme parks, the internal pattern of theme parks, the purpose and capacity of standard theme park elements (such as Main Street), circulation and transportation and finally the roles they all play in constructing and controlling the spatio-temporal occupation of theme parks. Therefore, theming also discusses the construction of time from the socially determined time of attendance to score as the apparatus for orchestration of spatio-temporal consumption of theme parks.

Epcot Epcot (Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow), was originally meant to be a 'high-tech' city of twenty-thousand residents but ended up more of a theme park then a community. Epcot consists of two parts. 'World Showcase' lets you visit the world without all the flying. The other park is 'Future World' which as the name suggests lets you visit the future with all the latest technology. Future World Spaceship Earth: The giant silver golf ball that you see everywhere, but have no idea what it is!! This is future world. The Land/Living with the land: A 13-minute boat trip in a simulated rain forest and through African desert and American Plains. Circle of life based on characters from the 'Lion King'.

MOVE OVER, MICKEY!
Universal's New Islands of Adventure
Takes Theme Parks To the Next Level
by Kelly Monaghan Move over, Mickey! Islands of Adventure (IOA) is here and Orlando will never be the same. Universal Studios' newest theme park (which joins the existing Universal Studios Florida park) is a real winner. Add CityWalk , a nighttime entertainment complex and the Portofino Bay Hotel , and you have Universal Studios Escape, which must now be reckoned a real contender in a head-to-head competition with the massive Walt Disney World resort complex down the Interstate. There are already some indications that the new complex is cutting into Disney's market share, but whatever the eventual outcome, vacationers heading to Central Florida have more choices than ever before. It is also likely that this new competition will spur Disney's "imagineers" to greater flights of fancy. And what could be wrong with that. Thrill Rides for the 21st Century Universal Studios has always prided itself on pushing the envelope in its rides and attractions.
