NEW THEORETICAL
PHYSICS
James A. Putnam Website on the Nature of the Universe Alternative u nified physics theory. Mechanical unity is achieved by redefining the fundamentals. This unity continues on into higher level theory. All theoretical properties have a common origin. Beyond the science of physics is the vast unknown nature of the rest of the universe. A universe of life and intelligence. The goal is to unite physics, life and intelligence. A natural unity far greater than that offered by theoretical interpretations of mechanical causes for changes in motion. Essays on physics, life and intelligence are included. "A BEACH BALL"
Oak Island, North Carolina
Welcome to the Web Site for "A Beach Ball" vacation rental house! "A Beach Ball" is a vacation house on the beach at Oak Island, North Carolina, between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. It's just 2 miles from the mainland bridge, in walking distance to restaurants and shopping. There are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. (More details below.) A Beach Ball is a cute, friendly, pine paneled house, with a gorgeous, unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean. It's a great place for a family vacation, a romantic getaway, for walks on a clean, uncrowded beach. It's a place to get back on track with people who matter to you.
With wood walls, ceilings and floors, A Beach Ball looks like the inside of a nutshell. It's a place where you can put your feet up and relax. Bring your favorite DVDs or tapes, enjoy the Surround Sound system we've recently installed, chill out with expanded digital TV programming, including HBO and 44 music channels. Sit on the veranda facing the glorious Atlantic, read a paperback from the book basket, have a glass of wine selected from Brenda's Beverage Barn.
Oak Island is the friendliest town we've ever seen. Boating, golfing, historical sites are abundant in the area. There are elegant and innovative restaurants, as well as inexpensive and satisfying family restaurants nearby. You haven't lived 'till you've eaten buffalo shrimp!

Non-technical description The field I work in is String Theory, a scientific theory which posits that the fundamental building blocks of matter and forces in nature are tiny vibrating strings. As yet, strings haven't been seen experimentally, but we are hard at work figuring out how we could detect them directly or indirectly - either by using giant particle accelerators or by studying the fine details of the cosmic microwave background radiation left over from the big bang. For a good introduction to String Theory, at levels appropriate for people varying from the interested layperson to a student interested in doing a PhD, please see the excellent educational website Superstringtheory.com

Introduction
DAMTP was founded in 1959 by George Batchelor . He was succeeded by Keith Moffatt in 1983, and then by David Crighton in 1991 (CDs of the David Crighton Memorial Concert are still available ). The current Head of the Department, since 2000, is Professor Timothy J. Pedley DAMTP is one of the two constituent Departments of the Faculty of Mathematics , the other being the (DPMMS), within which is located the Statistical Laboratory The two departments have begun moving to a new facility, the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) , on the same site as the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences . THEORETICAL PHYSICS
Curiosity about the world and a commitment to solving problems - these are the passions that drive the theoretical physics group at the University of Sydney. The aim of the group is to carry out internationally competitive research in theoretical physics. There are two main emphases: plasma physics, including applications to astrophysics, space physics and laboratory experiments; and electromagnetic theory and photonics , including wave theory, and linear, nonlinear and guided optics. Other interests include quantum optics, quantum electrodynamics, statistical physics and biophysics. The members of the Research Centre for Theoretical Astrophysics (RCFTA) and the Center for Wave Physics are part of the Theoretical Physics group. The RCFTA undertakes research in theoretical astrophysics with special emphasis on the fundamental physics of stars and on the physics of non-thermal phenomena. The aims of the Center for Wave Physics are to integrate expertise in the various components of wave science to generate new insights into fundamental wave science across disciplines. Associated groups include the Optical Fibre Technology Centre , the Photonics CRC and the VisLab computer visualization centre.
