Travelling back in time
Have you ever been back to a place you knew a long time ago? I am travelling this week and am in Northern Virginia. I went to high school here, learned to drive here, generally spent the better part of my teenage years here - with favorite hangouts, cool places to drive and play and all the sorts of things you do as a teenager. After college, I moved back here slightly farther out - it required a long drive through the countryside and farms before hitting the small town I lived in. I moved away to go to graduate school nine years ago and havent been back in the area for almost 5 years when I sold my townhouse.

by Reese and Jeanne Moore and Family

The Florida peninsula's true native people, the Timucuan, lived in an area from southeast Georgia - to Cape Canaveral - over to the Tampa Bay area - then north to Perry, Florida. This highly civilized culture had towns and villages which were surrounded by fortress walls made of upright wooden poles. Inside the protection of the fortress walls the round shaped village lodges stood. The hut style lodges were made of small diameter wooden logs with roofs made of palm branches. In the center of the village was the chief's large rectangular lodge which housed his family and the food and grain storage for the tribe.
The first 15th Century Europeans in America, which averaged a height of 5 feet, may have felt that they had discovered a race of tawny colored giants when they encountered the 6 to 7 foot tall Timucuans. The men wore loin covers made of animal skins and fastened their long hair on top of their heads with bone pins. The women wore skirts of moss or animal skins and wore their hair tied behind their heads. Timucuan people adorned their bodies with colorful tattoos, and wore ornaments of shell, pearls, seeds, nuts, bones and clay. It was traditional for the Cacique (chief) and other high ranking men to be tattooed and adorned from head to toe.
The Timucuan depended on their farming skills for the main foods of their diet. They cultivated the soil and planted maize, beans, squash, and grains. They also harvested some of Florida's indigenous plant roots, nuts, seeds, and fruits. Fish were caught in wiers made of reeds or harpooned. Small game animals such as rabbit, raccoon, lizards, and turtle were also taken and nothing was discarded. Bison, bear, and deer were not eaten although the skins were used for clothing and the bones fashioned into utensils and tools.

Discusses the possibility of associated paradoxes from a philosophical rather than purely scientific Category Science Physics Relativity time Travel...... Paradox. It describes how a time Travellers action when travelling backin time alters the time Travellers future creating a paradox.
http://www.cix.co.uk/~antcom/gp.html
The Grandmother Paradox
This is the most common example of the Time Travel Paradox.
It describes how a Time Travellers action when travelling back in time alters the Time Travellers future creating a paradox. ....if you kill your grandmother then you would not be born, therefore you cannot travel to the past and kill your grandmother, so you would be born, so you could travel to the past and kill your grandmother.... It could be argued that at the moment he changes the past he should promptly disappear. After all this could be a logical termination of his timeline (and perhaps a good reason for people not to time travel). In the film however he simply begins to fade away represented by a photograph of himself with his brother and sister where they begin to loose parts of themselves. It is not until his parents fall in love and therefore his future birth is established that he returns to health. There are also other aspects of Time Travel used in the film. Marty returns to ten minutes before the time he left and so for ten minutes there is an overlap with two Martys and two time travel cars. Also because of events witnessed by Marty prior to his time travel trip namely the shooting of Dr Emmett he is able to warn him. Knowing this Dr Emmett wears a bullet-proof vest which saves his life.

If you thought travelling in wormholes was the stuff of science fiction, you may have to think again. Intergalactic space travel is back on the agenda according to this week's New Scientist
A Russian expert in relativity, Sergei Krasnikov of the Pulkovo Observatory in St Petersburgh has done some new calculations based on Einstein's general theory of relativity to support the existence of cosmic shortcuts which allow travel, at faster than the speed of light, to another galaxy and another time.
According to New Scientist , other theorists admit to being intrigued by the new work, but remain cautious.
"It's worth taking seriously," says Ian Moss, a relativity expert at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. "The main worry is that it could fall down on some technical detail."
Paul Davies of Imperial College, London, adds that proving something is theoretically possible does not prove it actually exists: "My feeling is that the matter is still open," he says.
It is currently speculated that tiny quantum wormholes - at the level of quarks and electrons - may exist for short periods of time. But most experts suspect that some fundamental law of physics prevents the formation of large wormholes.

http://express.howstuffworks.com/hsww-timetravel.htm
Imagine what your history class would be like if time travel were possible. You could travel back to 1620 and watch the Pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock, or set your time machine for July 4, 1776, and watch Thomas Jefferson sign the Declaration of Independence, or even see the Wright Brothers on December 17, 1903 make their historic flight over the sands of Kitty Hawk, NC. History would no longer be trapped in our textbooks. We could live through the important moments of the past and see what really happened! You might be amazed that time travel already exists in some ways. One day, we might even be able to travel far into the future! We all think we know what time is. Probably the easiest way to see time is to watch the ticking hands of a clock. One clever teacher even put this message above the clock in her English class: "A note to clock watchers: Time passes... will you?" There are lots and lots of clues about time in our daily lives. Have you ever seen a newspaper after it sat a few days in the light and turned yellow? Your body also shows the effects of time. In fact, you've probably even grown a little taller this year. You'll find many definitions of time in the dictionary. The simplest one is that it is a series of events with a past, present and future. In fact, we are all time travelers of a sort. Even as you read this, you are traveling into the future at a rate of 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour and 24 hours per day.

A day in Moscow with Lydia
Woke up in time for the Russian Tourist Board Breakfast and our date with Lydia. Our train will leave late at night but untill then we will be occupied sight-seeing Moscow. So little time for such a huge city! First a bustour through the center, first stop is the Kremlin. Lydia shows us around and explains. I enjoy it, but am not quite with it as I'm already in my thoughts in the train to China. We go on to the Holy Virgin Monastry, on the outskirts of Moscow, more history, tsars and icons. The domes of the basilica sparkle in the sun. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, as though nothing ever happened here.
At last we drive past the Moscow University back to the city-center and are left at the Red Square, near de St Basil Basilica. We are allowed a couple of hours to ourselves to look around before we are expected back at the hotel for dinner. That time is spent mostly to find some necessities like tootbrush and towel for the girl who lost her backpack.

Introduction
In 1999, the Government of Canada established the Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program within the Department of Canadian Heritage. Indemnification is a process through which the government assumes financial risk, and provides compensation for damage or losses, should these occur. Through the establishment of the Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program, therefore, the Government of Canada assumes the financial responsibility for loss or damage to objects and appurtenances in eligible travelling exhibitions. The Indemnification Program has two objectives: first, to increase access for Canadians to Canada's and the world's heritage through the exchange of artifacts and exhibitions in Canada; and second, to provide Canadian art galleries, museums, archives, and libraries with a competitive advantage when competing for the loan of prestigious international exhibitions. Both international and domestically organized exhibitions are eligible for indemnification. Mamasa is still very much the way it always was - a more rugged version of Toraja. Less agricultural and with higher mountains, the air is appreciably cooler and waling is a pleasure. Trails lead through isolated villages for off the tourist route where traditional houses still use attap roofs and funerary tombs are carved in the shape of buffaloes. The clacking of handlooms can be heard echoing through the hills.

Just across the borders in Central Sulawesi is the Bada Valley where mysterious stone megaliths and jars are dotted across the valley floor. No-one knows the origins of these smoothly modeled figures whose benign faces look more like modern sculptures than very old statues. Above the Bada valley is the pristine Lore Lindu National Park whose 231.000 hectares is known for its dense lush forest, the best place to see Sulawesi,s bizarre endemic species like the babirusa (the pig dear), anoa and several species of Sulawesi macaques and saucer-eyed tarsiers. The forest is also home to numerous bird species including hornbills, and green imperial pigeons.

Amusing Cruising
Bandying Bandwidth ... Pointless Dave Picture Our knowledge of "light" is a jungle of completely opposite opinions, all of which are correct at the same time. Scientists have determined that any object travelling faster than the speed of light will actually move backwards through time; on the other hand, the same scientists have also determined that no object can travel faster than the speed of light. If this is true, it does seem silly to even consider "warp speed" to be a viable means of transportation. But don't be fooled; there are some loopholes that make it plausible. First, while travelling faster than the speed of light has been dismissed as impossible, it is still possible to travel at the speed of light. This has been demonstrated by light itself on various occasions in the past. How? I'll leave out the gory details, but it has been proven that light has no inertia. This means that, unlike everything else, it requires no energy at all to get moving, no energy to speed up, and no energy to slow it down and no energy stop it. (This, of course, explains why a car travelling at 60 km/h will kill you if it runs you over, and yet light, which travels noticeably faster, will just bounce off.) Since light requires no energy to accelerate, it can do so indefinitely without adding any energy. This, of course, leads to the question: why doesn't it go infinitely faster than it does? After much careful thought, scientists believe they have the answer.
