The athlete stands inside a five-meter-diameter circle and can make as many as three turns before launching the hammer as far as she can. The athlete with the farthest throw wins the competition.

The Triathlon saw its debut as an Olympic event in the 2000 Sydney games. The sport takes place in three different competition scenarios, all in the open. The International Triathlon Union (ITU) , allows 100 men and women athletes to participate over two days, competing in 3 events:
- Swimming: 1.5 km free style.
- Cycling: 40 km.
- Athletics: 10 km.
Facilities Main: The ITU requirements state that this competition should take place in an open-air circuit and that the surrounding environment should determine the lay of the circuit. Women and men run the same circuit. Although the minimum recommended seating capacity is approximately 3 000, these events usually provide areas for a large number of standing spectators, depending, of course, on the design and characteristics of the circuit in question. Warm-up facilities:
Not necessary. Training facilities:
The facilities used by the Swimming, Cycling and Athletics participants can be shared with the Triathlon competitors. These facilities must be no further than 30 minutes away from the Olympic Village and an amount of time must be designated for the Triathlon athletes' use of these facilities.

Before Sydney, the Games consisted of a 16-day competition in 26 sports. The Sydney Games introduced two more Olympic sports, Triathlon and Tae-kwon-do, along with new disciplines and events. Athletics Badminton Basketball ... Voleibol For the purpose of the Olympic Games, each country is represented by an Olympic Delegation under the supervision of a National Olympic Committee (NOC). To date, the International Olympic Committee have 199 CONs registered. These Committees are responsible for entering the athletes in the Olympic Games following established eligibility criteria. Teams qualify as a result of pre-Olympic competitions that are held in accordance with the conditions specified by the international federation for each sport. One of the biggest challenges that face the Organising Board of the Games is to offer Olympic sites that can meet the requirements of each sport and competition. The idea is to combine the needs of the host city with those of the Games. Therefore, when the calendar of events is drawn up, first of all the International Federation's requisites should be taken into account: preparation of the grounds for each sport, the athletes' training, and the progress of the competition itself, and if a sports ground is to be used for different sports it is important to calculate the amount of time required to adapt the grounds from one sport to the other. Finally, the need for rest days must also be considered.

    Did You Know?

The triathlon, which was born in San Diego in 1974, is the youngest sport that will be contested at the 2000 Olympics.
The competitors will race in a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run. The course will take them by many famous Sydney landmarks, including the Sydney Opera House . The race is held with a continuously running clock and therefore the changeovers or transitions between the swimming and biking and between the biking and running will be crucial to a triathlete's success. The first person to complete the full course is the winner.
The swimming event starts the race. Competitors begin in a large mass, diving off a pontoon into the water. They swim a triangular course marked with buoys and ropes and can use any swimming stroke they prefer. Once they get out of the water, the racers don their helmets, grab their bikes, and start pedaling. They must ride the bike the entire way unless they get a flat tire. In that case, they can run with the bike to one of six tire-changing stations. In most triathlons the competitors must change the tire themselves but at Sydney, specially trained teams will perform the task for them.
Once off the bikes, the final stretch begins. The triathletes finish with the 10km run and must complete the course on their feet, meaning no crawling across the finish line. The biking and running portions of the race will be held on the same course.

    TRIATHLON About

While taekwondo and triathlon both debuted as the newest Olympic sports at the Sydney 2000 Games, triathlon was literally the newest sport. Although the origins of taekwondo date back thousands of years, the triathlon dates back to 1978.
The first triathlon was held in the south-western United States city of San Diego in 1974, in many ways an outgrowth of the California jogging craze. The ultimate endurance test, it requires athletes to excel at three very different pursuits - swimming, cycling and running. The sport demands particularly intense discipline because each area requires a high-level training schedule.
    Competition
Triathlon races are held over four distances, labelled Sprint, Olympic, Long Course and Ultra. The Olympic triathlon comprises a 1.5 kilometre swim, a 40km bike ride, and a 10km run.
