Professional Collection Collection Development Policy A. Purpose
The purpose of the Professional Collection is to acquire, preserve, and provide access to materials that are needed by library, archives, and museum professionals, students, and trustees. The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records with Library Services and Technology Act Funds will purchase this material. The Professional Collection is one of the Agency's contributions toward statewide resource sharing and collaborative collection development. B. Clientele The Professional Collection is available for loan to professionals, students, and trustees who are interested in research material about the professions covered by the divisions of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records which include: libraries, museums, genealogy, maps, public records, and archives. Suggestions for future acquisitions are encouraged. Requests for new materials will be reviewed by a selection committee in accordance with this policy, which will be revised and updated periodically to keep up with the activities of the Agency. Suggestions may be made online using the Professional Collection

Ambassador, Consul General Celebrate Trip of Brazilian Youth Ambassadors On April 5, U.S. Ambassador Donna Hrinak and U.S. Consul General Patrick Duddy hosted a barbecue in honor of six Brazilian Youth Ambassadors who visited the United States in January 2003, where they met with Secretary Powell at the State Department, studied English, and enjoyed home stays at the University of Alabama Their trip, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, was part of a new initiative designed to expose young Brazilians to U.S. institutions and culture. U.S. Judicial Reform Team Visits Sao Paulo The U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo coordinated the April 1-4 visit of a top-level legal team from the U.S.’s Institute for the Study and Development of Legal Systems. The aim of the team which included ISDLS Executive Director Steve Mayo, U.S. Federal Judge Peter Messitte, California State Judge Leo Dorado, and Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Darryl Stallworth was to explore with Brazilian judges, lawyers and prosecutors the possible application of U.S. models for plea bargaining and pre-trial diversion to IPR cases in Brazil. The U.S. team conducted a two-part seminar on plea-bargaining and pre-trial diversion techniques at the São Paulo Criminal Court and at the Bar Association to a combined audience of almost 160 lawyers, judges, and prosecutors.
