    http://www.utah.edu/uaac/Advisor_Manual/G_GE_Exceptions.html
University of Utah General Education Exceptions ONE STOP ADVISING The purpose of One Stop Advising is to streamline the advising process and prevent students from having to go to several different places for advising. Students who have been admitted into a major meet with their departmental advisors for advising on all departmental, General Education-GE and Bachelors Degree (ie. CW, DV) requirements. Undeclared students are advised by University College until they are admitted into a major. There are two exceptions to this process:
  • Transition students will continue to be advised by University College for GE and Bachelors Degree requirements and by their departments for major requirements. Students who want to substitute a course for an approved GE or Bachelors Degree course must come to University College. University College is the office responsible for making exceptions for general university graduation requirements.
  • One Stop Appeals Policy This policy was created to centralize the appeal process for GE and Bachelor Degree requirements, thus stopping the referral of students to many locations to verify their graduation requirements. Background In the past, The Center for Academic Advising (which has now become University College Advising) was charged with making substitutions only for Liberal Education core and distribution courses. If students challenged the Writing requirement they were referred to the Writing Program. BS math requirement exceptions were handled by the Math Department. BA language was handled through the Language Department. American Institutions exceptions were handled by either the Economics, Political Science or History department depending on which class was being challenged. Thus, a student might have to go to several departments to get his/her graduation requirements cleared.

    INTRODUCTION
The Department of Medical Informatics is a department in the School of Medicine. The Department was established in 1972 and is internationally recognized for its contributions to clinical health information systems, computerized decision-making, evaluation of computerized patient care, genetic epidemiology/Bioinformatics, medical imaging, and medical informatics research. Current education and research opportunities range from basic to applied sciences and encompass four tracks for the MS and PhD degrees. The Department has a National Library of Medicine Training Grant in Medical Informatics to support its Predoctoral and Postdoctoral research training. The Training Grant also funds four short-term traineeships each summer for students in the medical or other professional schools of health. The Veterans Administration has Medical Informatics Traineeships available in Medical Informatics through the Department. Intermountain Health Care (IHC) also provides some trainee funding opportunities. DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Department of Medical Informatics at the University of Utah is to improve health care outcomes through information systems (including health, economic, and satisfaction results for consumers and providers) in both the private and public sectors of the health industry. To accomplish this mission, the Department assumes three major responsibilities:

MBM Residency Training Housestaff training is supervised by the medical school's Graduate Medical Education Committee and the more than 800 full-time faculty members of the School of Medicine. The ratio of full-time faculty to housestaff is more than 1:1, and a clinical staff of community physicians augments the regular faculty. Houseofficers participate in daily rounds, discussing patient problems and arranging necessary care. Teaching rounds are led regularly by full-time faculty, and weekly chart-review sessions with housestaff are held by senior faculty. Residents in most programs are on call an average of one out of four nights. In addition to their patient-care activities, residents also serve as active teachers. They guide the work of medical student "clerks" and first-year students and often help prepare unit visiting rounds, staff rounds, clinical-pathological conferences and other clinical and professional meetings.
