Possible Action Plan for Implementing the Utah State PTA Resolution on Attention Deficit Disorders 1. Work on a plan to support the in-service of parents and educators about AD/HD Get a copy of the 1991 United States Department of Education Policy Memorandum into the hands of all educators and parents. See that your school has a copy of the "Utah State Office of Education Attention Deficit Disorder Guide" (available from Department of Student at Risk). Be aware that the Utah State Office of Education has prepared in-service training materials on Attention Deficit Disorders to be used by school districts in training their teachers to understand and work with students who have AD/HD. Meet with district and school administrators about the above listed materials. Ask them what their plan is for implementing training for teachers and parents to help students with AD/HD have successful educational outcomes. Point out the recommendations from the federal government and the State Office of Education that all educators are required to have training (not just an awareness of) about the disability AD/HD. (See the Policy Memorandum and page 45 of the Utah State Attention Deficit Disorder Guide—#7 and 8 of Table 5—Recommendations and Conclusions). Invite CH.A.D.D. and/or the State Office of Education to present a workshop on AD/HD for Region, Council or Local PTA groups or combined parent and educator groups.
