The Ogden Nature Center (ONC) is seeking an Executive Director to lead this growing organization into an exciting future. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible with the Board for the overall success of the Center. ONC is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary and education center whose mission is to unite people and nature in mutually enriching experiences and to nurture appreciation and concern for the environment.

  • HEIDI HAYES JACOBS, president of Curriculum Designers, Inc., has served as an education consultant to thousands of schools nationally and internationally. She works with schools and districts, K-12, on issues and practices pertaining to: curriculum reform, instructional strategies to encourage critical thinking, and strategic planning. Her books, Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Design and Implementation and Mapping the Big Picture: Integrating Curriculum and Assessment K-12 have been best sellers. Both books are published by ASCD. Numerous articles have appeared in professional journals. Dr. Jacobs has served as an adjunct associate professor on the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University, NYC, since 1981 and continues to teach there every summer. Geoffrey G. Smith is the Executive Director of the Substitute Teaching Institute (STI) at Utah State University(USU), the principal investigator for STEP-IN (Substitute Teacher Educational Program Initiative), and has served as principal investigator for several other substitute teacher projects. He is the publisher of the Substitute Teacher Handbooks, the SubExchange Newsletter, and the SubJournal. Geoff holds an MBA degree and a Masters in Educational Economics. The Utah Education Policy Center (UEPC) was formally organized by the Graduate School of Education at the University of Utah in the Fall of 1990. UEPC is administered through the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy as a not-for-profit organization. UEPC is actively involved with promoting research, developing a regional lecture series involving national and local education leaders, and facilitating the collection and dissemination of data relevant to educational policy issues. The materials produced and published by UEPC are available through this Internet service. The research materials cover a variety of education policy-related issues in Utah including: higher education, school organization and governance, teaching and learning, and trends and analysis. The materials are published as either a policy paper or as part of the centers Conditions of Education in Utah Yearbook.

Utah's BEST and FACT initiatives exemplify the link between OSEP support programs and state Part B allocations. The BEST (Behavioral and Educational Strategies for Teachers) Project builds on the OSEP-developed National Agenda to Improve Results for Children and Youth with Serious Emotional Disturbance. BEST is a comprehensive staff development effort across the continuum of general and special education settings that builds upon the work of OSEP-funded researchers. BEST combines:

GRADE LEVEL: Professional, K-12 CONTENT:
SURWEB allows teachers to create their own multimedia presentations right on the Web without any special software. Included is a database of learning materials created at the site. AESTHETICS: Each section of the site is represented with an appropriate graphic and color that is repeated on the internal pages. ORGANIZATION: The site is divided into four color-coded sections: Collections, Media Shows, Testing, and Learning Segments. Each section has a navigation bar at the top of the page for navigating the section and a side menu with color-coded buttons to access other areas of the site. REVIEW: SURWEB offers many resources connected to parks, museums, and the Utah curriculum. Teachers anywhere will be able use of some of the other resources, which include the ability to make online media shows, interactive tests, and learning segments (lessons). To use the service, teachers must register for their own free SURWEB locker number. To create a media show, users may use the images and movies in the extensive online gallery, save them from the Internet, or upload their own. Detailed online tutorials are available for each section. The created materials are stored on the SURWEB server and made available on the Web. Many of the
