VATICAN CITY STATE!!
Translate into: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese The Rise and Fall of the Papal States from Daniel Chapter 7 Pius IX (1846 - 1878). In 1870 Pope Pius IX was the most HATED man in Italy. In July 1870, he was declared infallible by Vatican Council I, and in September war broke out between France and Prussia. The French troops upholding the last remnants of the Pope's temporal power had to be withdrawn to oppose the invading Prussian soldiers. The Italians rushed into Rome and proclaimed the United Kingdom of Italy with Victor Emmanuel as king. Professor Gavazzi led the conquering host into the city. He invited the Pope to step down from his lordly throne and join the true church of Rome - the Evangelical Free Church - founded by St. Paul in 60 A.D. He admonished him to give heed to the words of St. Peter who said: "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time" (I St. Peter 5:6).

History of the Vatican Secret Archive
The oldest documents in the Vatican Secret Archive are evidences of donations, lists of Churches and of Charity actions. From the IV century on, after the Church of Rome was officially recognised, the collection could be regarded as a real archive. The erection of Saint Peter's Cathedral (or Basilica), was started in this period of theological and artistic excitement . Since the Middle Age, the archive kept growing and remained in the Lateran Palace until the XIII century. During the of papacy of Gregory the Great, the archive was kept partly inside Saint Peter's Cathedral, next to Saint Peter's tomb, partly in the Chartularia Tower, near Titus' Arch, and partly in the vestiary of the Church of Rome (Vestiarium Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae) at the Lateran Palace.Unfortuntely, due to the vulnerability of the material and to the adventurous and frequent displacement as well as to wars and sacks (among them the Sack of Rome in 1084), a large part of the archive was lost.

Last night was awful. We were placed in a compartment with four individuals who were certifiably insane. It was extremely hot on the train and the people we were with insisted on keeping the door to the compartment closed and the windows locked. It was like a pressure cooker and I was sweating profusely . As tired as I was (not sleeping but an hour or so on the boat last night), I only got about two hours of sleep. I even had to get up at about 3:00AM to go outside and gasp for air due to the general stuffiness of the room. There was no source of water on the train and I did not have the foresight to bring some with me. I bet you could have lit a match on my tongue as dry as my mouth was.
From the train station, I traveled via the Rome subway on "Line A" (known as the "pickpocket train") to the Vatican. This had to be top priority as the museum was only fully open to the public in the morning. The Vatican has a strict dress code for visitors. They will not allow anyone to enter wearing either a tanktop or shorts. I had packed only shorts, but luckily Shola had an extra pair of pants that I wore rather uncomfortably in order to get in.

General
Rome has been at the forefront of the civilised world for great many centuries, hence it has also been labelled "The Eternal City". Rome has a great deal to offer its visitors, from historic ancient ruins, to modern Italian style. Sedate piazzas are just around the corner from snarling traffic jams, and "Cultural Overload" can be appeased by a gentle stroll through nearby gardens. The tiny (0.44 sq km) Vatican City, revered as the home of the Roman Catholic Church, lies within the city of Rome as an independent State. Many visitors flock to the popular sights; however, this great city has more to offer than tourist attractions.
Geography
Rome is situated close to the West Coast in the Lazio region of Italy. Surrounded by "The Seven Hills", the city is dissected by the River Tiber. The Vatican City can be found to the west of the city of Rome.
Climate
The winter months are generally mild. In springtime, the temperatures start to rise, and summer can bring some very hot days (30

Vatican backs Harry Potter
By Nicole Winfield in Vatican City
THE Vatican is giving two thumbs up to the Harry Potter series.
The Reverend Don Peter Fleetwood told a Vatican press conference today the good versus evil plotlines of the best-selling books were imbued with Christian morals. "I don't see any, any problems in the Harry Potter series," he said. Fleetwood was responding to questions following the release of a new Vatican document on the New Age phenomenon, which he helped draft as a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture. Fleetwood was asked whether the magic embraced by Harry Potter and his pals at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was problematic for the Catholic church.
Some evangelical groups have condemned the series for glamorising magic and the occult.

75. Italian Language And Culture In Rome
A trip to vatican city and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel reveals the splendor of Italianlanguage and deepen their understanding of Italian culture and history
http://www.uic.edu/depts/spec_prog/studyabroad/Rome/Romemain.html
For centuries the Colosseum has stood as a symbol of the great city of Rome.
Why Rome?
Known as the Eternal City, Rome keeps residents and tourists alike captivated with its history and its position as a vibrant world capital. Landmarks such as the Collosseum, the Pantheon and the Roman forum reflect ancient Roman society. A trip to Vatican City and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel reveals the splendor of the Renaissance. And a visit to Rome would not be complete without tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain. Legend has it that one coin represents a swift return to Rome and two coins means that the visitor will fall in love while in Rome. Those looking to explore the outskirts of Rome will not be dissappointed in the small cities found in the surrounding region. A trip to the Pontine Islands allows one to explore the beaches and coves once frequented by pirates. Visitors to Rome can also easily visit Tivoli where Italian villas and gardens abound. A momentary pause in traffice provides a view of St. Peter's Basilica.
