West Virginia Community-Based Initiatives (CBI) Grant Program
The West Virginia Community-Based Initiatives (CBI) Grant Program is administered by the Office of Epidemiology and Health Promotion's Division of Health Promotion , and supported by the Office of Community and Rural Health Services . The CBI Grant Program continues to focus on health prevention activities related to the Healthy People 2010 objectives. There are two main categories: Mini Grants and Innovations. The Mini-Grant component allows for grants from $500 to $5,000 and targets standard interventions which address the Healthy People 2010 Priority Areas and osteoporosis prevention. The Innovations Grant component allows for grants from $5,000 to $25,000 for priority areas addressing physical activity, nutrition and injury prevention. The Office of Rural Health Policy's Minority Health Program collaborates with the CBI Program to target funding of projects by faith-based organizations. Such grants allow local churches to provide health education and prevention, community awareness, and youth intervention services to the underserved communities in West Virginia.

SETTLES PRICE-FIXING CHARGES AGAINST VITAMIN
MANUFACTURERS: WEST VIRGINIA RECEIVES $1.9 MILLION Attorney General Darrell V. McGraw, Jr., today announced that final approval of a settlement has been granted, settling a historic price-fixing case against top vitamin manufacturers, bringing approximately $1.9 million to the State of West Virginia to improve the health and nutrition of West Virginians.
Of the approximately two million dollars that West Virginia will receive as its share of the settlement, Attorney General McGraw announced that the funds would be split, with $1 million being given to the Department of Health and Human Resources to fund an oral and dental health program for adults moving back into the workforce. The Department of Health and Human Resources will be able to draw down federal matching dollars to boost the overall program to $4 million.

For Grandparents and Special Others Raising Children West Virginia
Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children A State Fact Sheet August 2002
Across the country, more than six million children approximately 1 in 12 children are living in households headed by grandparents or other relatives. West Virginia has more than 113,000 children living in households headed by grandparents or other relatives. In many of these households, grandparents and other relatives are the primary caregivers (“kinship caregivers”) for children whose parents cannot or will not care for them due to substance abuse, illness and death, abuse and neglect, economic hardship, incarceration, divorce, domestic violence, and other family and community crises. In response to the growing numbers of these kinship care families, state legislatures, public and private agencies, and grassroots coalitions in West Virginia and across the country have begun to expand services and supports for children living with kin inside and outside of the foster care system. A Look at the Numbers: Kinship Care in West Virginia The data below show the numbers of grandparents who are living in households with at least one grandchild under the age of 18, as well as the numbers of grandparents who are the primary caregivers for these grandchildren. These numbers were reported by the 2000 U.S. Census and are available for every place (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau) in the country, including cities, towns, villages, and boroughs, on the U.S. Census website.

The two professors have been coauthoring an entry-level athletic training text that they plan to dedicate to their mentor, Bob Nicolette (PEM, BS, 1956), who served as head athletic trainer at UIUC from 1957 to 1969. Dr. Behnke was Nicolette's successor and served from 1969 to 1973. In 1995, Dr. Behnke was recognized for his outstanding contributions to sports medicine and the athletic training profession when he received the Distinguished Service Athletic Trainer Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). Through close involvement with various academies and associations, he has been instrumental in establishing nationwide the: (1) recognition of athletic training as an allied health profession; and (2) accreditation of athletic training education programs.

http://www.co.lincoln.wv.us/extension0002.html
The Lincoln County Cooperative Extension Service is a program of West Virginia University (WVU) and the United States Department of Agriculture . It also is funded locally by the Lincoln County Commission, the Lincoln County Board of Education and is supported by other local private and public funding agencies and individuals. The purpose of the Cooperative Extension Service is to bring education from the college halls to the practical world where we live. Although the 4-H and other youth programs are the most visible of the Extension Service's programs, they are not the only services provided. The Lincoln County Extension Service is. . . helping you put knowledge to work! Although the Extension Service is grounded in a rural society of days gone by, it has not lingered in an agricultural based society and watched as the world passed by. The Extension Service has changed with the times in order to make the many programs that it offers attractive to all types of populations, whether inter-city, urban, suburban, rural or in between. In Lincoln County, since it is a more rural area than some others, the focus still is on serving the rural needs of the region. As Lincoln County grows, the Extension Service is already prepared to grow with it by leaning on the storehouse of services that it already provides to urban areas. Lincoln County is a changing society, and the Extension Service is an agent of change.
