Wyoming Public Education Industry (K-12):
Aging Employment in the Wyoming Education System
by: Lee Saathoff T Wyoming Labor Force Trends article. covered employment (please refer to the Glossary Comparison of Wyoming Employment to the Wyoming Public Education System K-12 A comparison of the age distributions between public education and employment in the state as a whole suggests some definite contrasts. Using the F- and t-statistical tests, there was a significant difference between the mean ages of Public Education employees and all workers covered by Unemployment Insurance at the 99th percentile . The mean (average) age for all workers covered by Unemployment Insurance in 1995 was 37.9 years and the mode (most common) was 39 years (please refer to Table 3 , for definitions of mean and mode). However, the mean and mode for those working in public education (K-12) in 1995 were 41.9 years and 43 years, respectively (see Table 1 ). It is evident that the education sector is older than the state's working population as a whole. We also see that the age distributions are quite different between public education and all persons working in the state (see Table 2 ). Due to these factors, the education sector cannot be used as a predictor for the state economy as a whole. However, there can be predictions made about this particular sector.

Colleges, Universities And K-12 Give Mobile Computing A+ As Schools Flock To IBM For Wireless ThinkPad Computers

Wireless Cheaper Than Hardwired Network While Giving Students Greater Access, More Integrated And Customized Learning
WHITE PLAINS, NYAug 24, 2001 The explosive growth of campus-wide, mobile computing among colleges and universities is causing well-equipped freshmen this fall to add wireless IBM ThinkPad notebook computers to their lava lamps, popcorn poppers and year-long supply of laundry detergent. Students from nearly two dozen higher education schools, including Seton Hall University, Northern Michigan University, University of Akron, Mount St. Joseph, Wake Forest University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and most recently Loras College, Oklahoma Christian University and Framingham State College will be using wireless ThinkPad computers from IBM this fall. Dozens of additional schools are collaborating with IBM to give all or part of their student body use of such computers. The cost is usually included as part of the tuition or school fees. The phenomena of students using wireless IBM ThinkPad computers also includes a growing number of leading K-12 schools across the nation.

Utah Education Network
Davis County School District Overview The Davis County School District in Utah serves over 58,000 K-12 students, with more than 6,000 faculty and staff at over 90 locations. Davis County School District is the third largest in the state and the fourth fastest growing. The District covers a wide geographic region, so data services are a crucial component in the District's strategy for serving the community. While the District has had limited online connectivity since the mid-1980s, Superintendent Richard Kendell never wavered from a vision of bringing a computer into every classroom, and the classroom into every home. Qwest stepped up to the challenge of designing a comprehensive network including Internet access, Web hosting, collaborative computing and electronic commerce. The goal is to connect the District's 147 file servers and 12,000 PCs, and give students and educators from the region fast, easy access.
