July 19, 1999 New DoDEA Deputy Director for Europe Selected Arlington, VA. The Honorable Rudy de Leon, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, today announced the selection of Diana Ohman as DoDEA Deputy Director for Europe. The selection was made through a competitive process that enlisted the participation of representatives from all interested groups: the military, parents, teachers, and senior DoDEA staff. As Wyoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1991 to 1994, Ohman was responsible for the oversight of 49 school districts dispersed over a wide geographical area including 7,000 teachers and 500 administrators. The schools served approximately 100,000 students. In that capacity, she developed standards for school accreditation and teacher certification and created the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board. She has been recognized for her experience and expertise in the education of high mobility student populations, standards based instruction, her advocacy for students with disabilities, and her development of technology systems to assist in the management of geographically dispersed schools and school districts. The success she has achieved in all her previous positions is widely attributed to her exemplary management skills and talent as a coalition builder and communicator. The date Ohman will assume the position of DoDEA Deputy Director for Europe, with responsibility for the oversight of all eight Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) districts in Europe has not yet been set.
