83. Award Winning Children's Books: What Are The Best Books For Children? This Sites
We have included two categories Best Juvenile Mystery and Best young AdultMystery, Governorgeneral's Awards for Children's literature.
http://www.schoolratings.com/bestbooks.htm
Reading is one of the most important skills your child will ever learn. How do you find the best books for your children to read? We have created a FREE list of nearly 1,300 award winning children's books. Every year, many organizations select the finest books for children. We have combined all these prize winning books into one comprehensive list. Our children's book list includes these fifteen prestigious awards.
Newbery Medal and Honor Books
The Newbery Medal is presented annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in the United States in the preceding year. The recipients must be citizens or residents of the United States. The award was established in 1922. Often Newbery Honor Books are named. There is no limit to the number of Honor Books, but none has to be named. Usually, two or three Honor Books are named in addition to the medal winner each year.
Caldecott Medal and Honor Books
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Honor books are usually named. Established in 1938.
Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards
Awarded annually since 1967 by The Boston Globe and The Horn Book Magazine. Winners and Honor Books are announced each fall at the New England Library Association conference. One of the things that makes this list different from the Newbery and Caldecott lists is that books published in the U.S. but written by non-Americans are eligible. Since 1976, it has also included an award for nonfiction.
