Recreation Zoos Zoos and Animal Sanctuaries All the parks have wheelchair facilities and playgrounds for children to let off steam. All of the parks have special activities such as 'behind the scenes' tours, special demonstrations or times to watch the animals being fed by the zookeepers. This is sometimes connected with the opportunity for the public to ask the staff questions about the animals. Almost all, if not all, zoos have an English-language guide. It is possible for school groups or clubs to go on educational visits to the parks or a museum and there are reductions for the admission fees for groups in general. Apenheul
Apenheul is the largest monkey and ape zoos in the world with thirty species of apes, monkeys and prosimians, some of which are allowed to roam freely. Also the world's largest group of captive gorillas lives in Apenheul, living peacefully with other animals such as macaws, capybaras, otters, tortoises, and many others.

"Brilliant. Its clear and unpretentious language and Hancocks' evident passion for and knowledge of his subject made it one of the best books I have read in a long while."Tim Murray, The Age (Melbourne) "This brilliantly researched and persuasive book traces the sociology of animal captivity back to Paleolithic times." Publishers Weekly "The capture and display of wild animals, an ancient and universal phenomenon, embodies a dichotomy, Hancocks explains in this engrossing history of zoos and their role in society. His critique of the miseries associated with their museumlike warehousing of living creatures is electrifying, the perfect lead-in to his discussion of the slow realization that naturalistic habitats are essential to zoo animals' health and happiness." Booklist "[Hancocks] writes authoritatively and compassionately, and fortunately offers some ideas on how to improve zoos for both the animals and the people who visit them."

Mission Statement: To promote conservation awareness and cultural enrichment through education and recreation. To be a survival center for native and exotic animal species and an active community partner in economic development through tourism.
Education Programs- Local and Global Conservation
The education programs at the Cameron Park Zoo address local and global conservation and environmental issues from many angles. Our programs address topics that range from as simple as the consequences of littering to much more serious. We strive to provide our guests and students with the knowledge to make appropriate decisions and take positive actions. We believe we can help them learn how to think and not necessarily what to think by providing them with the necessary tool of knowledge.

Planning life in Paradise !
I can still see the Delta Airlines Terminal clearly, complete with two tranquilized Pets and lots of luggage in Tow. This was D Day-our move to Costa Rica, after months of planning, packing and pondering life in Paradise, not to mention convincing friends and relatives that we had not completely lost our minds! Who would have thought that our auspicious moving day would coincide with Hurricane Mitch, preventing us from reaching our Dream House, due to an impassable mountain road? Alas, this would be my first test of Survival Skills attained during a cold March weekend in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, where under the Tutelage of Tom Brown Junior, I learned the basics of Wilderness Survival.

http://www.norbest.com/a_agricultural_facts_01.cfm
Home Products Recipes How To Tips ... Animal Industry Foundation, http://www.aif.org , used with permission. Our additional notes are indicated in brackets.) In an increasingly urban society, our contact with animals, especially farm animals, is limited. While man and animal depend on each other, our modern culture separates us from other species more and more. As a result, our understanding of the needs and roles of domestic animals becomes weaker, and in some cases, distorted. One of the best strongholds of animal welfare in our culture is the farmer. With the exception of zoos and animal parks, only the farmer enjoys close, daily contact with animals. As farmers tend livestock and poultry, guaranteeing their health and welfare, the animal provides an economic return to the farmer in the form of wholesome, high quality foods valued by the vast majority of consumers. The consuming public today is generally unaware of farmers' relationship to their animals, and how meat, milk, and eggs are produced on modern farms. The average consumer may not make the connection between attractively packaged meat, milk, and eggs in the supermarket, and the process of getting these foods from the farm to the dinner table. The image of the family farm with its red barn, a few chickens in the yard, some pigs in the mud, and cows in the field isn't accurate anymore... Today, U.S. animal agriculture is a dynamic, specialized endeavor, the envy of the rest of the world. Only in America can 3% feed 100% of the population as efficiently as we do. The key to this efficiency? The best cared for livestock and poultry in the world.
