A selection of recent talks
  • Het brein als inspiratie voor lerende computerprogramma's
The talk was presented at the Docentendag on 28 november 2002 as part of the 9th lustrum of the faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.
  • A modern view on artificial intelligence
Can computers think? This presentation gives an overview of the history of ideas in artificial intelligence. It reviews the 'analog' approach of perceptrons and multi-layered perceptrons and the 'digital' approach of expert systems. It shows how the modern view on AI is embedded in good old probability theory and sketches possible solutions for the inevitable intractabiity issues.
The talk was presented as an after dinner lecture during the 14th Annual Graduate School of Particle Physics, Jonkerbosch Nijmegen 24 september 2002

High tech research labs are addressing
some of the most important problems in
neurobiology. Excellent
research libraries and facilities make this
program one of the best in the world. Research faculty investigate a broad brange
of neuroscientific areas. Top priority projects include studies of neural developmental regulatory genes in humans, mice, Drosophila, and C. elegans, mechanisms of action of neurotrophins, synaptic plasticity, neural regeneration, stem cells and a wide variety of basic brain cell functions. "The Graduate Program in Neuroscience" was formerly "The Graduate
Program in Physiology and Neurobiology." For those primarily interested
