Essay Topics (Biology 315) IMPORTANT NOTE ON PLAGIARISM In this university: "No student shall submit the words, ideas, images, or data of another person as the student's own in any academic writing, essay, thesis, research project or assignment in a course of program of study." [From the Code of Student Behaviour 26.1.4 (2); page 72 of the University of Alberta 97-98 Calendar.] Whenever you do present such material in your ess ays, you must provide a full citation to its source in order to avoid the charge of plagiarism. Plagiarism is a very serious academic offense that will be penalized. If plagiarism is proven, at the very least you will receive a grade of zero for the assignment. Depending on the circumstances, the maximum penalty is expulsion from the university. Please consult with me if you are unclear as to what constitutes plagiarism. Your best bet for finding an essay topic: Surf the Journals! Nature Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of London and The Linnean Society Scientific American and many foreign-language journals. Many specialist journals also go back to the 19th century. There are some journals devoted specifically to the history of science, medicine and biology. There are also many old textbooks and reference books in different fields. In the John Scott Library (Medicine), there is a collection of rare books and manuscripts which can be consulted, provided you wash your hands first! Call the Collection Coordinator, Jeanette Buckingham (492-7932) and tell her "Reuben sent me"!

  • Lectorium Rosicrucianum (International School of the Golden Rosycross)
  • Order of the temple of the Rosy Cross (OTRC) was founded in London, 1912, by Mrs. Annie Besant [1847-1933], Mrs. Marie Russak (Hotchener) and Mr.H. Wedgwood. The membership of this order was mostely consisting of Theosophists and Co-Masons («Le Droit Humain»), as their leaders was also active in these groups. They worked with transcendental ceremonial magic, and claimed to be representing Templarism as well as Rosicrucianism (which they regarded as very related). Their teachings may be perceive d as Theosophy presented through a Rosicrucian frame. OTRC was not only a doctrinal order, but they were also engaged in several cultural activities. The order was not very widespread, allthough they for instance got a Norwegian branch in 1914. It seems t hat the order eventually dissolved around 1918.
  • Corona Fellowship of Rosicrucians (CFR) was created about the same time as the OTRC was closed down. A former member of the OTRC founded this order together with a certain «Frater Aurelius», author of several esoteric essays. It is perhaps note worthy that they created something called

AUTHOR INDEX TO ROBERT MERRY'S MUSEUM
The Museum featured works by almost every nineteenth-century writer for children, from Jacob Abbott to Sophie May; it also excerpted works for adults, among them Herman Melville. Especially during 1857-1867, the magazine printed pieces written by its subscribers: some adults, many not. Alphabetized by author's real name (where known); use control-F to search for pseudonym. Except for Melville, ONLY SIGNED PIECES ARE LISTED HERE. Author's birth/death dates appear after the name; pseudonyms are listed just before titles, which are in alphabetical order. Number after each title is the year the piece was printed. Authors who were subscribers are marked with an asterisk (*). For page numbers, see " By title ". International Standard Book Number: 0-89235-040-7 Printed and bound in the United States of America TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION The History of Women is an indispensable research tool for all those interested in the study of women's history. Primary source materials, selected from the world's most important library holdings through 1920, have been brought together to create the most comprehensive microfilm collection ever assembled on the subject. The Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College are the two renowned women's history archives that form the core of the microfilm collection. These extensive archives contain invaluable documentary evidence of women's individual and corporate activities. Other notable collections have contributed incomparable additional resources to the Smith-Radcliffe materials. The Jane Addams Hull House Library provided depth in its coverage of the settlement house movement, and of the activities of women in social reform in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The unparalleled private collection of Miriam Y. Holden offered an incisive look at Medieval and Western European women. New York Public Library and Boston Public Library added rare early imprints and periodicals on women outside America. And the Mcpherson Collection at Scripps College enriched the
