Bethlehem (Pennsylvania) BETHLEHEM (USA), is a small city in Northampton and Lehigh counties, in the eastern part of the state of Pennsylvania, on the Lehigh River. With nearby Allentown and Easton, Bethlehem forms an important industrial and manufacturing center. The city contains the headquarters of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, one of the largest producers of steel in the United States, although the majority of its operations are carried out in other cities. In November 1995 the company closed the last operating blast furnace in its original plant, ending more than 100 years of continuous steel production in Bethlehem and laying off 1800 workers. Other manufactures include textiles, foundry products, machine parts, chemicals, electrical equipment, and food products. Lehigh University (1865), Moravian College (1742), and a community college are in Bethlehem. It is the site of an annual May festival

Azrael's Bar
He stood behind the counter, mixing drinks;
Pride for the old, who like their liquor tart,
False joy, as merry as a bed of pinks.
He had the eyes of a sarcastic lynx
And in his apron was a small black dart
With which he stirred, secretive and apart,
His shaker, till it rang with poisonous clinks.
I fumbled for the rail. "The same, with gin?
Love triple star you like the velvet kick?"
I shook with the blind agues of the sick.
Then, through lost worlds, his voice, " Fini , old friend?"
He poured black drops out, cold as dead men's skin:
"So? This is what we always recommend "

Swans
The Quality of Courage
A Poem by Stephen Vincent Benet
Black trees against an orange sky,
Trees that the wind shook terribly,
Like a harsh spume along the road,
Quavering up like withered arms,
Writhing like streams, like twisted charms
Of hot lead flung in snow. Below
The iron ice stung like a goad,
Slashing the torn shoes from my feet,
And all the air was bitter sleet.
And all the land was cramped with snow,
Steel-strong and fierce and glimmering wan, Like pale plains of obsidian. And yet I strove and I was fire And ice and fire and ice were one In one vast hunger of desire. A dim desire, of pleasant places, And lush fields in the summer sun, And logs aflame, and walls, and faces, And wine, and old ambrosial talk, A golden ball in fountains dancing, And unforgotten hands. (Ah, God, I trod them down where I have trod, And they remain, and they remain, Etched in unutterable pain, Loved lips and faces now apart, That once were closer than my heart In agony, in agony, And horribly a part of me. . . .

SWANS
Note from the Editor In America, we tend to jump from crisis to crisis. A submarine here, a spy plane there, Israel one day, Colombia the other, a missionary plane shot down over Peru, electrical blackouts, school shootings or Iraq bombings. In the news cycle only the stock market, the weather, the 2-minute segment on the President and the ads are a daily constant. Everything else comes and goes. So much comes and goes that we cannot even keep track of much at all. We even forget at times that it even happened and the only opinion we barely have is what we were told in the news. Some issues, however, are worth visiting and revisiting, analysing, pondering time and again. It does foster understanding but most importantly it helps to learn and act accordingly. So, this week we are bringing you four perspectives about international justice and Slobodan Milosevich (also spelled Milosevic), the former president of Yugoslavia. We hope you read them and ponder them; then, as always, please form your own opinion.
