Catt, Carrie Chapman (1859-1947) Carrie Catt was an American leader in the campaign for woman suffrage. She served as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association from 1900 to 1904, and from 1915 to 1920, when Amendment 19 to the United States Constitution was passed, giving women the right to vote. Catt began her suffrage work as an organizer of clubs in 1887. She became one of the suffrage movement's most effective lecturers and organizers. Her work extended to Canada and Europe. From 1904 to 1923, she served as president of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance. In 1920, Catt founded the National League of Women Voters (now called the League of Women Voters) to teach women an understanding of public affairs so they could vote intelligently. In 1925, she founded the National Committee on the Cause and Cure of War. This became the Women's Action Committee for Victory and a Lasting Peace. Carrie Clinton Lane was born in Ripon, Wis., and attended Iowa State College. She taught school and became the first woman superintendent of schools in Mason City, Iowa.

A Tribute to India Quotes: Thoughts: Quotes on Sanatana Dharma ome of the famous intellectuals in the West and the East had the following things to say about Sanatana Dharma: Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), American Philosopher, Unitarian, social critic, transcendentalist and writer: "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seems puny." "What extracts from the Vedas I have read fall on me like the light of a higher and purer luminary, which describes a loftier course through purer stratum. It rises on me like the full moon after the stars have come out, wading through some far stratum in the sky."
"In the great teaching of the Vedas, there is no touch of sectarianism. It is of all ages, climes and nationalities and is the royal road for the attainment of the Great Knowledge."
"I would say to the readers of the Scriptures, if they wish for a good book, read the Bhagvat-Geeta .... translated by Charles Wilkins. It deserves to be read with reverence even by Yankees...."Besides the Bhagvat-Geeta, our Shakespeare seems sometimes youthfully green...

Seventh-Day Adventist religious liberty executive
There is little doubt that religious liberty is best exercised within the setting of the secular state. This does not mean the state should be hostile or indifferent to religious bodies, but rather that it must exhibit what has been called a "benevolent neutrality." ...
Freedom of religion also implies the right not to have or profess a religion. This is sometimes overlooked. It is a sad commentary on religion that religionists, probably quite well-meaning at times, have throughout history tried to force fellow human beings into a required religious mold. Apart from the very wrong theological assumptions involved, this is a flagrant violation of the dignity of the human person. Coerced religion is demeaning and of little value.
Bert B. Beach Bright Candle of Courage, 1989, pp. 14-15, quoted from Menendez and Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom Charles Austin Beard (1874-1948)
American historian
You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence.

Here's a Positive Thought
American mystic Vernon Howard (1918 - 1992) taught us that pictures communicate large amounts of data to the mind. He gave us Psycho-Pictography: The New Way to Use the Miracle Power of Your Mind (1965). The book offers dozens of healing pictures. Following is an example of a healing psycho-pictograph. Contemplate this story whenever you're afraid of a person who abuses power.
"Suppose you see a tiger in a zoo. Now, you know very well that this tiger is a cruel and vicious animal. He would destroy you if he could. You understand his ferocity, yet you are unafraid of him; his cruelty does not alarm you. Why are you fearless? Because you know he is powerless to harm you. The bars protect you. A Closer Look at the New Age Movement Fra John Carlo Rosales, FFI The author, a deacon and theology student, writes us: "About a year ago, while I was in the waiting area of a subway station in Rome, I happened to get one of many pamphlets that were scattered around. I was surprised by its contents. It read something like this: "The New Age Movement...We use crystals...occult practices...'It seemed to say that one can try this 'New Age program as an alternative way to solve man's problems. "Some months ago I was able to watch a program by Mother Angelica. The guest speaker was Constance Cumbey, a practising American lawyer. The topic discussed was the New Age movement. I was surprised by what Ms. Cumbey related because I didn't realize that the New Age movement involved transcendental meditation, reincarnation, the use of crystals, and other strange and occult ventures. Constance Cumbey has written a book entitled , published in 1983, which covers at length the New Age Movement, a movement which is rapidly spreading. In West Germany alone there are about 500,000 adherents as well as countless sympathizers.[1] I also learned that the roots of the New Age movement trace back to the Theosophical Society founded by Russian-born Helena Petrovna Blavatsky in 1875, in New York." Special abbreviations used in this article are the following: CCC = , Barcelona, Herder: 1966. GS = Vatican II

They are legion, and i have not touched them before, save a few that because of their influence i had listed elsewhere. These authors are rarely if at all acknowledged as masters, even by themselves. Still, many people, impressed by a worldview, freed of some baggage, touched by a poetic expression of That, think they have something worthwhile to say. Many acknowledged masters are also authors of course, but they will not be listed here, just the poets, dreamers and thinkers – and what the hell, maybe even a few artists and musicians. So this is not about their ineffable personages, just their works, some of which have truly been influential spiritual classics. There are most often, in the case of the deceased, no surviving orgs/cults. A few factoids, as usual, and the name of their best-known work will be included.
The links provided will often be just book links, eg Amazon, Alibris and BN. There may be better or more personal sites to be found with a diligent Google search.
