English revision by Joel Weishaus (USA) http://digitalmedia.upd.edu.ph/
A cd-rom (compact disk read-only memory), contains data that can be read but that cannot be altered. With it the reading changes. The reader-operator takes the square plastic box, opens it, takes the disk out and puts it in the computer's CD drive. The opening and closing of the pages of a book becomes clicking with a mouse. From this act on, two readings start: the computer's reading in order to understand the software by which the cd-rom was composed, and the reader who operates the computer with the aim of making a reading out of the printed book: "a reader who surfs on a screen, programming readings, in an evanescent universe of signs, but eternally available, on condition that he can't loose the route to get them" (Santaella 1997). On the cover, an elegant figure, with some similarity to Charlie Chaplin's most famous character dressed as being in XIXth century, seems to be on the top a white pyramid, and, on the bottom, the Infinite. While Julien Sorel, on the top of pyramid, invites the reader-operator to make a cyberspatial trip to the universe of imagination, and, also, to the digital world. An interactive and hypertextual journey, it offers a passage to the literature and poetry.

Borges a Vies imaginaires
Tradujo a Stevenson y a Meredith, obra delicada y difícil. Admiró imparcialmente a Whitman y a Poe.

Art, like other potent substances, should be consumed in moderation. This conclusion is to be drawn from the experience of the French novelist Stendhal (Marie-Henri Beyle, 1783-1842) who, while visiting Florence in 1817, emerged from the church of Santa Croce in an extremely shaky condition.
“I was already in a kind of ecstasy,” he wrote, “by the idea of being in Florence, and the neighbourhood of the great men whose tombs I had just seen. Absorbed in the contemplation of sublime beauty, I saw it in close-up, I touched it so to speak. I had reached that point of emotion where the heavenly sensations provided by the fine arts meet passionate feelings. On leaving Santa Croce, I had palpitations; all the life went out of me, as I walked I was afraid I would fall.”
This is the first description of what Florentine psychiatrist Graziella Magherini named “the Stendhal syndrome”, a profound psychological disturbance triggered by exposure to a work of art. Symptoms may include dizzy spells, loss of the sense of identity and orientation, depression and even physical exhaustion. This kind of cultural overdose, for which the only known cure is rest, reportedly affects a handful of foreign tourists in Florence each year. According to Magherini, who has written a book on the subject

    Introduction
Some writers don't worry about line-endings, meter, subtle rhythmic changes, or deeply psychological significant sound. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Yet even I, a poet, must concede that many of these hacks uh, that is, that many prose writers are nonetheless great artists. How can they be great, these reprobates? These, these slackers who ignore what I have spent my life trying to learn? By mastering many kinds and qualities of writing that we poets seldom have opportunity to employ. For one thing, great prose writers are macro -artists workers in long forms. Most of us poets are micro-artists workers in short forms. We don't have room to do what they do, worrying as we are about our own small excellences. Or the prose writers may be narrators. They may be explainers of processes. They may (having space, unlike us rhymesters) tell long stories, while we poets (most of us) are

Stendhal (1783-1842) - vlastním jménem Marie-Henri Beyle Francouzský romanopisec, hudební a literární kritik, autor cestopisù a teoretických spisù. V románech a novelách líèí cestu cti¾ádostivých hrdinù od romantické iluze k cynismu a pøetváøce, èi marné vzpouøe a smrti.

Stendhal is best known for his masterpieces LE ROUGE ET LE NOIR (1830) and LA CHARTREUSE DE PARME (1839), sharp and passionate chronicles of the intellectual and moral climate of France after Napoleon's defeat. Stendhal also wrote travel books, literature and art critics and biographies about such composers as W.A. Mozart and Joseph Haydn. Stendhal's subjects are often melodramatic, but they form a fascinating frame for his psychologically deep stories of selfishness and different paths to self-discovery. "A novel is a mirror that strolls along a highway. Now it reflects the blue of the skies, now the mud puddles underfoot." (from Le Rouge et le Noir Stendhal was exiled from Milan by Metternicht's police and in 1821 Stendhal settled again in Paris, trying to make his name in the salons. During this period he had an affair with countess Clémentine Curial, who wrote to her lover 215 letters in two years. In 1822 Stendhal published DE L'AMOUR (On Love), which was according to Ford Madox Ford "the dryest book about love that was ever written". It was based on the psychology of Destutt de Tracy. Stendhal regarded himself as a disciple. In On Love he distinguished four species - the physical, the tasteful, love from vanity, and love from passion, which is the source of the highest happiness. Stendhal's first novel, ARMANCE, a psychological story about impotence, was published in 1827.
