A BRIEF HISTORY OF CONCORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH EATONTON, PUTNAM COUNTY, GEORGIA Including Register of Members and The Cemetery Listing of Ministers This brief history of Concord United Methodist Church has been contributed by The Clopton Family Association, http://www.seanet.com/~clopton/, and The Eatonton-Putnam County Historical Society. If you have any additions or corrections, please contact Suellen Clopton Blanton, bblanton@fast.net The oldest Methodist Church west of the Oconee River, Concord is located in Putnam County (Eatonton) Georgia, on Pea Ridge Road in the eastern portion of the county. In the fall of 1810, Thomas Johnston and William B. Pritchard began building a house of worship. The little log cabin, when finished, was named Victory, but a few years later, the name was changed to Concord. At that time, it was a Methodist Episcopal Church on the Sparta Circuit. The land was donated by John Robertson. The first Trustees were Thomas Jefferson Johnston, Richard Burt, Joseph Turner, James Burt, and Josiah Flournoy. In 1825 a frame structure was built. The present church building was built in 1886 by Thomas J. Winslette. Resting on rock pillars, the floor joists are pine logs hewn flat on the top for stable flooring. The framework is of rough lumber just as it came from the sawmill. Beginning in 1987 an addition was built at the rear of the church. The pews were moved forward, the aisle, widened. Great pains were taken to match the interior and exterior architectures as closely as possible with the older section.

FORREST CLARK JOHNSON III COLLECTION Manuscript Collection No. 107
DONOR: Forrest C. Johnson III, LaGrange, Georgia SIZE: 11 linear feet Series III 3 Boxes Processing: FCJ, July 1991 - April 1992 BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE Forrest Clark Johnson, III, began collecting this information in 1963 out of an interest in genealogy and history, especially local history. The culmination of his research and collections were Volumes I and III of Histories of LaGrange and Troup County, Georqia. Volume I, The History of LaGrange, Georgia from 1828 to 1900, and Volume III, Genealogical and Historical Register of Troup County, Georgia were bound together. Volume I was a thesis for an M.A. in History. Other volumes are in progress. Volume II of the series, titled HistorY of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, also grew, in part, out of this collection and church records. (Troup County Archives Collections, MS-82). Johnson was Church Historian of Pleasant Grove from 1978 to 1992. Other publications of Johnson's include two series of articles for the LaGrange Daily News in 1969 and 1971. He was editor and major contributor to the quarterly Troup CountY Georqia and Her People from its inception in 1980 until 1986. Johnson speaks to many groups about historical topics and works with the local media. Johnson graduated from the University of Georgia and West Georgia College holds A.B. and M.A.s in history. He has taught history at Troup High School since 1974. Johnson has served as County Historian of Troup County since 1989 and is Research Historian at the Troup County Archives. He is a member of many historical and genealogical organizations.

NEW WORLD ORDER
The United Nations is the command center for the New World Order. As incredible as some of these quotes may sound, they are a matter of record. Readers are urged not to dismiss them out of hand, but to investigate for themselves what our government is doing to our country. "In short, the "house of world order" will have to be built from the bottom up rather from the top down... an end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, will accomplish much more than the old-fashioned frontal assault." - Richard N. Gardner, "The Hard Road To World Order," Foreign Affairs, April, 1974. "The standard of living of the average American has to decline... I don't think you can escape that." - Paul A. Volker, Federal Reserve Chairman, October 17, 1979. "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever." - George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four. "We are not going to achieve a new world order without paying for it in blood as well as in words and money." - Arthur Schlesinger Jr., The CFR Journal

Family Histories
The two basic classifications of sources from which to obtain genealogical information are Primary and Secondary. Primary sources consist of authentic, original records such as land deeds, birth and death certificates, wills, marriage certificates, or photocopies of original documents and official government records. Secondary sources consist of family oral traditions, records later copied or transcribed (there may be errors) and any other information recorded sometime after the fact: the longer afterward, the less reliable. Published family histories are secondary sources and should not be taken for fact as they are often inaccurate.
The most important thing in dealing with published family histories is to first look for source citations. Then try to find out something about the author. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City has a huge collection. A list of all of the holdings can be found in the Family History library catalog (surnames section) which is available on either microfiche or CD-ROM at every Family History Center.

Actually, I dont have a palm tree, but I have something much more interesting for you to learn. There was a book a friend lent me not long ago on terms and their definitions for the various periods of our history - much of the early stuff, of course, extensively borrowed or brought over from England and Europe. Unfortunately, its been misplaced and though Ive looked hi and lo Ive about given up searching. Its was of such interest I had written down some of the terms to include in the newsletter for many times we come across these words and do not exactly know in what context they were used, and would have liked to have known. So, heres a few Ive managed to get before the book slipped out from beneath my fingers. ("And they say Doug Henning's quick -Ha!) Yeoman -originally, in English history, a menial servant. In 15
