Analytical Solid Mechanics DR. CRAFT’S general area of research over the last decade has been the analysis and design of composite structural materials including: Braided and woven (textile) composites, minimum weight structures for specialized missions, the determination of residual strength and properties after impact, and specialized structural and modeling problems involving new technologies. Another area of interest has been the development of optical and electrical strain and displacement sensors. In addition, Dr. Craft has been active in curricula development and on committees relating to professional engineering, educational, and related topics. The following research is currently being carried out: - The development of stiffness and thermal expansion modeling concepts for various types of composites. A structural model was recently proposed for 4-step (track and column) textile braids which incorporates the off-axis orientations. The model was developed after a review of the braid patterns and an isoparametric solid element was used to predict the stiffness of a number of braided solids. Agreement has been very close to the limited experimental data on braids.

    William Shakespeare's
MPAA rating: PG-13 Movies this week
The madcap revisionism of W. Shakespeare hits warp speed in the willfully titled "William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet" more an heir to "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" than anything ever put before the groundlings at the Globe Theater. But that cross-cultural kinship isn't such a bad thing. In fact, in purely cinematic terms, it may be something close to a pretty great thing even if Shakespearean purists are going to horrified, mortified but never mollified by what "Strictly Ballroom" director Baz Luhrmann hath wrought. And what he hath wrought, to be frank, is a sort of "Strictly Balcony" another quirky rebel love story set to a dicey musical beat in an off-kilter community with its own specific regimen of morals, mores and interfering citizenry. Everything you need to know (or dread) about Luhrmann's take on Will's signature love story can be ingested within the first 10 minutes: as eye-popping, head-banging, nerve-fraying an audio-visual prelude as any Bardian spin has ever spun off the screen straight into our laps. (That includes the Nazi-infested "Richard III" of last year, though Kenneth Branagh's sexed-up, all-star "Hamlet" appears to be coming 'round the bend at a pretty speedy clip if the current coming attractions trailer is any indication).

    98. William Morris Arts And Crafts In Cumbria
A brief biography of William Morris, and details of the various arts and crafts workmanship by Morris and Company in Cumbria (the Lake District).
    http://www.visitcumbria.com/wmorris.htm
    'William Morris'
William Morris (1834-1896) was born in Walthamstow, Essex, the son of a wealthy city stockbroker. He was educated at Marlborough public school, then went to Oxford, where he met Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898) and Philip Webb (1831-1915), both of whom became lifelong friends. Both Morris and Burne-Jones intended entering the Church, but they gained inspiration from the writings of John Ruskin , and decided they wanted to become artists. Ruskin saw the work of Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood as 'the dawn of a new era of art'. After leaving university, Morris spent the years between 1856 and 1861 pursuing various careers, including training under George Street as an architect. Through Burne-Jones, he also met Rossetti and other Pre-Raphaelite painters. Encouraged by Rossetti, Morris turned from architecture to painting, and was at the same time writing poetry. In 1859 he married Jane Burden, the archetypal Pre-Raphaelite beauty with brooding eyes, who appears in several of Rossetti's paintings. Early in their marriage they moved into 'Red House' in Bexleyheath, Kent, which had been designed for them by Philip Webb. They created murals, carvings, stained glass, metal work, embroidery and furniture. Their success was mainly due to Morris and Webb's associations with architects, church decoration being their most important activity.
