There is no other reason why we should live on than that we love and are beloved. It is when we have no one to love us that we commit suicide. So long as we have friends, those who love us and those whom we love, we will live; because to live is to love. - Henry Drummond The Greatest Thing in the World is the transcript of a lecture given by Henry Drummond that enjoyed a circulation of more than 350,000 copies in his lifetime. Although there have been many editions by a variety of publishers over the years during which The Greatest Thing in the World has enjoyed its phenomenal success, this DeVorss edition is different. First published in 1890, Drummond`s essay employed the generic pronoun "he" for both sexes. This new edition replaces the masculine references with terms referring to both men and women. The result is a more personal and heartfelt message, in contemporary taste, that nevertheless preserves the beauty and integrity of the late-19th-century classic. Love is ever new. So, now, is Henry Drummond`s immortal classic.

8. Henry Drummond
Biography of Henry Drummond (18511897), scientist, evangelist, author of many books including the multi-million selling, The Greatest Thing in the World. Site has many books by him to read free online.
http://website.lineone.net/~henrydrummond
Henry Drummond Author of the multi-million selling inspirational meditation "The Greatest Thing in the World"
WHO WAS HENRY DRUMMOND?....Born in Scotland in 1851, he was a man of varied talents. Perhaps best remembered as a gifted evangelist who assisted Dwight L. Moody during his revival campaigns, he was also a lecturer in natural science. Although he never received a degree, he was an ordained minister and a professor of theology. He also wrote several books. "Natural Law in the Spiritual World", published in 1883, sold 70,000 copies in five years and made him famous. He published another popular book, "Tropical Africa", after making a geological survey of southern Africa. "The Ascent of Man" was also a significant book during his lifetime. However, "The Greatest Thing in the World" - a meditation he wrote in 1874 that illuminates the importance of 1 Corinthians 13 - is the one that assured he would be remembered by later generations. Widely read and quoted during his lifetime, it went on to sell over 12 million copies and it continues today to influence people to follow God's two great commandments: to love God and to love each other.
