Hurricane Opal
The coastal impacts from Opal were generally the result of wave action and flooding rather than wind. A discussion of the wind impacts of Opal can be found in Chiu (1996), but the gist of it is that there was very little wind damage caused by Hurricane Opal to areas right at the coastline. However, the damage caused by waves and storm surge was extreme, ranking Opal as the ninth costliest storm to strike the coast of the United States (damage totals corrected to 1994 dollars), causing an estimated 2.9 million dollars worth of damage (Hebert et al., 1996). Much can be learned on how to mitigate future damage from a survey of the damage patterns using a geological perspective.

KATAPILLA METAMORPHOSIS
With reference to your Krazy Katapilla program, may I be so bold as to indicate what I think are errors and general cock-ups in said program?
The Nudge facility cannot be used to complete (or even add to) the Katapilla - to cure, add line: 395 GO TO 860.
(Actually it wasn't supposed to, but thanks for the tip. TP.)
Also, you start with nine credits and still have a go left when the credit counters shows 000! To cure, change CRE in line 1710 to LET CRE=11 and also make line 110 read:
LET CRE=CRE-1: IF CRE=0 THEN PRINT AT 15,23; PAPER 8; "0": INPUT "NO CREDIT - PRESS ENTER FOR MORE"; LINE A$: LET CRE=10: GO TO 120
This leaves the display ready to go when you run out of money.
(The original does start with ten credits - but credits are taken off before you go, hence the first display is of nine credits and the program shows 000 credits on your last spin. TP).
Nudge is too infrequent (I didn't want to make it too easy. TP)

FAQ
A Sig11 GYIK
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11

Scottish Family and Name of Sharp There are in America three families bearing the name Sharp — one of Scottish and one of English origin, while there is a third to which we may give no consideration here, it being of direct German descent, originally "Sharpenstein" now shortened to "Sharp. The English and Scottish families are probably very distantly related, and it is interesting to note that the perhaps most distinguished member of the Scottish family, James Sharp, was Archbishop of St. Andrews, hence Primate of Scotland, while at nearly the same time, a member of the English family, John Sharp, was Archbishop of York and Primate of England. As to the origin of the name, authorities appear to differ. Such dictionaries of British family names as Ferguson's "The Teutonic Name System" regard the name as being one of a class descriptive of personal characteristics. "Sharp," says Ferguson, "is from the Anglo-Saxon, Scearp; Old High German, Scarf; Modern German, Scharf, — sharp, quick, acute; simple forms: English, Sharp, Sharpey, Sharpus, Scarfe, Scharb; German, Scharpff, Scharf; diminutive, Sharpley."
