63. Awesome Artists And Editors
A list of freelance artists and Editors specializing eBook production.
http://www.100megsfree2.com/2000/freeedit.htm
Are you looking for an editor to polish that fantastic novel you've just finished writing? Look no further. This site contains a listing of some of the best freelance editors on the net. Each editor is an experienced professional in various genres. They are dedicated to making each and every book that crosses their desks a top-quality, error-free novel. Why do you need an editor? Well, for one thing, most publishers won't accept a manuscript that is full of errors. Chances are they won't read beyond the first five pages before tossing it aside. If you intend to self-publish your book, you still need editing. Why? Because no matter how many times an author proofreads the manuscript, the obvious errors are overlooked. The reason for this is that the author is too close to the story. They see what they "expect" to be there. What do editors look for in a manuscript? They look for: grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, story flow, transitions of scenes and paragraphs, active voice vs passive voice, proper word usage, clarity of meaning, subject/verb agreement, wordiness, redundancies, excessive dialogue tags, repetition, capitalization, character consistency, and the proper use of ellipses, hyphens, quotation marks, italics and parentheses. The editors listed here do a complete edit on the manuscripts submitted to them. This means that you get a content edit, copy edit, and proofread all in one. Some services charge separately for each type of edit. Here, you get it all combined for one reasonable price. To select an editor, click on the editors link below to see a list of the available editors and a bit of information about each of them to help you decide which editor is best for you. Once you have decided which editor you would like to edit your book send them an email and begin negotiations for the editing of your book. Please note that the editors only edit the book. They cannot guarantee that the book will be accepted by publishers or agents.

Editor's Workshop
Hey guys and gals of the writing world!
Welcome to the Editor's Workshop. Basically this is a website set up to not only promote the wonderful world of creative writing, but to grant tips and insights to those who are just starting out.
Here's a little background information about myself My nom de plume is Aadi Marlont and I have been writing for over five years. I have completed a couple of novels and I am working on a couple more. I am an English major who devotes quite a bit of time to editing the works of others whenever I am not frantically scribbling an essay or cramming for an exam.
Now for the promotional part: Writing is a wonderful experience which I highly recommend to anyone with a creative mind and a little extra time. For as those of you out there with over-active muses well know, writing is an easy way to create your own amusement and escape from the pressures and unpleasantries of daily life.
You know how after a really disapointing ending to a really rockin' film, you sit down with your friends and gripe about the ending? Well why not rewrite it? Fanfic is one of the easiest ways to start writing, only be careful to not commit an act of plagerism as this is both frowned upon and highly illegal. This is my suggestion for the month; hope it helps! : ) Well, I know that this not too exciting, but hey, it's still under construction, so feel free to notify me on what you would like to see added.

This comprehensive free guide provides ways for ezine Editors to publicize their work on the Web, including newsgroups and e-zine directories. Also some tips from Chris Pirillo, publisher of LockerGnome.
http://www.zinebook.com/publicz.html
How to Publicize Your E-Zine Once you've created an e-zine, how do you get the word out? This guide offers strategies to let a world of readers know about your work. You also should check out these eight great tips from Christopher Pirillo and Mike Woodridge's . For more guidance on which promotion techniques are most effective, consider the Poor Richard's Internet Marketing and Promotions Step One: Create We'll assume you have created your webzine, or have the basic know-how to do so (if not, two excellent books to accomplish this are Web Sites That Suck and Poor Richard's Website Creation ). You'll receive much of your traffic from search engines, which index your pages based on a variety of criteria. Although most of the major engines no longer consider them, it can' hurt to add meta keywords to your pages before submitting your pages. If you haven't already, establish a secondary email account at a free site such as hotmail.com or deja.com and use that address when you register to avoid getting crushed with spam. Also, your webzine will rank better with the engines if you have your own domain name, rather than an address at a service provider (e.g. members.aol.com or geocities.com). You can register your zine's name for $14.95 per year at sites such as Dotster , which might be a good idea even if you don't have immediate plans for it. Other sites offer low-cost hosting / domain name packages that start at about $6 per month. Check out

What is BELS?
T he Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS) was founded in 1991 to evaluate the proficiency of manuscript editors in the life sciences and to award credentials similar to those obtainable in other professions. The Board was founded by 10 editors who had long been active in national and international professional associations in scientific editing and publishing. They began working on the development of the certification program in the early 1980s. They were assisted by consultants in testing and by administrators of certification programs in other professions. BELS was incorporated in the state of Maryland on January 23, 1991, and the first official certification examinations were offered that year. Membership now numbers in the hundreds and represents countries all over the world. Three credentials are offered:
  • Certification. Diplomate. Honored editor.
Certification
The certification examination is a 3-hour multiple-choice test of scientific editing in English. It resembles the standard tests used in many professions to certify practitioners. The program is designed to assure employers or clients of editors that a Board-certified editor has established a high level of credibility. Editors who successfully complete the certification examination may use the designation ELS (Editor in the Life Sciences) after their names. More information about the certification process and the examination schedule is available on the

For more information about documentation, see the Writing Center's handout on Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Acknowledging Sources The 1994 CBE (Council of Biology Editors) manual, Scientific Style and Format , describes two systems of documentation, the citation-sequence system and the name-year system . Both systems, often with variations, are used in scientific publications. This handout provides guidelines for each system. For a class paper, check to see if your instructor prefers one of these systems or another. (Some scientific fields, including chemistry, horticulture, medicine, and physics, have their own style manuals.) To find out which system to use in a paper you are submitting to a journal, check the journal's instructions to authors. The CBE manual specifies that journal titles should be abbreviated, and it provides rules for abbreviation and a list of standard abbreviations of words commonly used in titles. Although this handout focuses on documentation style, you should be aware that the manual also contains information on many other aspects of scientific style, from prose style to handling of numbers, tables and figures, and conventions in a variety of scientific areas. You can consult the manual at the Writing Center and at most campus libraries.
