Greg Jones Greg Jones holds an LLB from the University of Auckland. He is one of the co-authors of the New Zealand commentary on the Insurance Volume of Halsburys Laws of England. Greg has extensive experience in general, commercial and insurance litigation and practices particularly in the areas of public liability, professional indemnity, product liability, construction risks and insurance fraud. Greg has practiced in the civil litigation area with an emphasis on insurance litigation since 1977. He was instructing solicitor and junior counsel in what is still, most likely, New Zealand's largest insurance litigation involving non-disclosure by a corporate entity. Greg's knowledge of insurance law and experience in acting for underwriters has resulted in him being instructed in respect of significant parts of the major insurance litigation that takes place in New Zealand. Greg was selected to protect the interest of the majority of property underwriters during the power crisis suffered by Auckland City in 1997. Greg is regularly requested to speak and present papers of two industry groups on all aspects of insurance law.

Flag Wars
Just saw "Flag Wars," a documentary by Linda Goode Bryant and Laura Poitras at the South By Southwest Film Festival. Amazing. The film depicts the terrible conflicts which arise in a traditionally African American neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio, as affluent white gay and lesbian begin to gentrify the area. Amazing characters, phenomenal verite storytelling, and fearless grappling with deeply complicated racial, class, and sexual preference biases. The film won a much-deserved Best Documentary Award from the festival tonight. It's an ITVS project and will play on PBS as part of the POV series. Highly recommended. The corridors of BBC Television Centre are now, according to one of Greg Dyke's top lieutenants, echoing to the sound of laughter. No, it's not the studio audience at Auntie's Bloomers: this, apparently, is what crap-cutting sounds like. The air of despair that descended during the dark days of John Birt has been lifted; where once there was discord, Saint Dyke of White City sows harmony. "I remember going to my first meeting of the executive committee and hearing laughter coming out of the door," cooed the corporation's new director of television, Jana Bennett, in an interview with the Daily Telegraph last week. "I assumed I was in the wrong place. But when I peeked in, there they all were - and they were actually enjoying themselves."

Monday January 20, 2003
The Guardian

Between now and 2006, when the BBC's royal charter must be renewed, the corporation will have to reconcile these two opposing views. The battle has started early: a green paper on the charter renewal process is not due to be published until the autumn, but the proliferation of new channels and services launched by the BBC over the past six months has led to constant questioning of its role. The argument crept up on an unsuspecting auntie: while the corporation expected a fight over BBC3, it was genuinely taken aback by the level of opposition to BBC4 and the digital curriculum - finally approved this month, three years after it was first proposed.
