by Michelle Campagna Edward Morgan Forster (1879-1970) was an English novelist, essayist, and social and literary critic. His novels were written in a fluid style, and they showed his interests in social and personal relationships, along with the psychological and racial problems in his time. He was best known for his novels Howards End and A Passage to India In 1901-02, Forster made his first visits to Italy and Greece and began writing short fiction and novels and devoting much of his life to writing. His first novel was Where Angels Fear to Tread (1905), followed by The Longest Journey A Room With a View Howards End (1910), and later A Passage to India The Celestial Omnibus and Other Stories came out in 1911, and The Eternal Moment and Other Stories came out in 1928. Both of these novels were volumes of Forster's shorter works Forster returned from his many travels and to a break from writing to get his M. A. at Cambridge. After his short rest, he returned to the world of traveling. In 1912-13, he spent his winter in India, gaining information for his novel A Passage to India . During this time, Forster became a part of the Bloomsbury group, which included many of the intellectual and artistic individuals in London. After World War II broke out, Forster volunteered for the Red Cross. This sent him to Alexandria, where he was from 1915 to 1918. In 1922, he returned to India for six months and became the private secretary to the Maharajah of the State of Dewas Senior. Also during this year, Forster started to write nonfiction, beginning with a guidebook to Alexandria. After World War II, he traveled to South America, the United States, Italy, and Greece.

    ROOM WITH A VIEW
    Micki S. Smallwood - A.P. English
Romanticism is one of the more popular styles of fine art and literature. Romantic authors place great emphasis on having freedom to release passionate emotions, living by the spontaneity of intuition, and yearning for the infinite ( Lipking 430 ). Many great novels emerged from the romantic period. Edward Morgan Forster's novel A Room with a View is an excellent example of romanticism. E.M. (Edward Morgan) Forster was born January 1, 1879, in London, England. His father died soon after his birth, and he was raised by his mother and two aunts. Forster was educated at the Tonbridge School in Kent until 1897, when he began attending King's College at Cambridge. It was at Cambridge that Forster came into the romantic manner of thought. In 1904 the Bloomsbury group, a circle of literary, artistic, and intellectual individuals, began meeting in their homes. Members of the group included Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf, Forster, Roger Fry, John Maynard Keynes, Victoria Sackville-West, Lytton Strachey, Clive Bell, and Duncan Grant. Members of the Bloomsbury group "held in
