W esterns would seem the ideal genre, but it appears few western writers are captivated by the Lost Dutchman tale. Nevertheless, here are a few, ranging from classic Zane Grey to Jake Logan's trash fiction that mention the Waltz tale or at least make superficial use of the geographic locale. See the Introduction for an explanation of bibliographic and publishing information as well as notes and comments.

Loco and the Wolf. Garden City: Doubleday, 1973.
Hardcover with dust jacket, 160 pages. Also, New York: Manor Books, 1974. Paperback, 168 pages. Ballard was a prolific writer who went from writing mysteries to westerns. Also wrote under the name Parker Bonner, Jack Slade and others, see below. Two prisoners, Loco and Wolf, escape from Yuma Prison and end up helping a prospector's daughter and an undercover Wells Fargo detective look for hidden loot in the Superstitions. Lots of trouble with Apaches and they get tricked by a woman from Phoenix who arrives there first to get the money. Not bad.

    Can e-books improve libraries?
    Introduction
    E-book technology E-book usability E-book readability E-book affordability E-book accessibility E-book awards E-book Cataloging e-books
What are libraries cataloging? E-book hardware? E-book titles? Both? A survey of the cataloging for Rocket eBooks and SoftBooks by 25 libraries in libraries with e-books , revealed that 17 libraries catalog only the e-book readers, 4 catalog e-book readers and the e-text titles in the readers, 4 catalog only e-text titles. Cataloging hardware Here are my observations of current cataloging of e-book readers.
  • MARC cataloging of e-book readers list titles only or titles and authors in the 505 contents field, 700 added author and/or 740 added title fields. ChristChurch City Libraries' cataloging adds the words "Electronic book" at the end of each added title and author entry. This clarifies the format of items in list authors and titles. Sample added entries:
Added title: Star trek : strange new worlds. Electronic book.
Added author: McCourt, Frank, 1930- 'Tis. Electronic book.
  • Since e-book readers contain several books, assigning appropriate subject headings to specific titles is impossible. Therefore, cataloging provides either no subject headings or adds subject headings "ebooks" and/or "electronic books." One exception is
