New Delhi, March 8
Mark Waugh made up for his first ball exit in the first Test in Mumbai when he and Ricky Ponting pulverised the Board President’s XI bowling attack with a flurry of strokes as the Australian team utilised the third and last day’s play of the three-day match for some much-needed batting practice, at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here today. HE second Test starts in Kolkata on Sunday. This would be a special Test for me for it would be my first Test as captain at the Eden Gardens, the place I have played all my cricket and the ground I have virtually grown up on. This is also a crucial Test for us for we are one down in the series and a win here is very important before we proceed to Chennai. Indian selectors’ thinking defies logic

GORBY MAKES FURTHER DISCOVERIES VII. THE WOOL KING PREFACE TO THE REVISED EDITION OF I N The writing of the book was due more to accident than to design. I was bent on becoming a dramatist, but, being quite unknown, I found it impossible to induce the managers of the Melbourne Theatres to accept, or even to read a play. At length it occurred to me I might further my purpose by writing a novel. I should at all events secure a certain amount of local attention. Up to that time I had written only one or two short stories, and the "Cab" was not only the first book I ever published, but the first book I ever wrote; so to youth and lack of experience must be ascribed whatever was wanting in the book. I repeat that the story was written only to attract local attention, and no one was more astonished than I when it passed beyond the narrow circle for which it had originally been intended. i.e.
