The Dillon Family
Compiled by: Henry S. Dillon Dillon Genealogy
Henry S. Dillon
August 24, 1997 "The Dillon family history and genealogy is taken in part from the record compiled by J. W. S. (Sherman) Dillon of Route 1, Denver Missouri (1932), who was a great, grand son of (*)Thomas Dillon, our original American ancestor. DILLON Genealogy (Direct Male Descent) The original American ancestor of the Dillon family to which we belong was (*)Thomas Dillon who came to America from Ireland before the War of the Revolution. He settled on a farm in Green County, Pa., where he followed his trade of a weaver. He taught his children to farm and at maturity most them adopted farming as a business. The sons were Thomas, Abraham, William, Isaac, Israel and JOHN. There is no record of any daughters born to (*)Thomas Dillon. I was unable to obtain any record of any daughter's in the original (*)Thomas Dillon family. Great Uncle John Dillon, the youngest brother of VINCENT Dillon, and the youngest of (*)Thomas Dillon's son, JOHN, wrote me that he knew nothing of the sisters of his Uncle's and father. JOHN is the son in whom we are vitally interested. He was the first of our direct ancestors to be born on American soil. His birth date was 1785 and he died in 1848. He resided in Franklin Township, Green County, Pa., and was a farmer by occupation; he was the father of five daughters and seven sons as follows: Nancy, Rachel, Mary, Betsy, Nellie, Hugh, Thomas, VINCENT, Peter, Hamilton, David and John. John's youngest son was also, John, who outlived his older brother, VINCENT, having died in W. Va. near Hamlin, between 1910 and 1920. He was born February 7, 1826 and was 9 years older than my father, Isaac Dillon who was his nephew.

MEMORY LANE CEMETERY
SILVER CITY, GRANT COUNTY, NEW MEXICO
This survey was compiled by Reverend Clifton M. Henderson, Jr. and his wife Jean Woodburn Henderson of Silver City. Reverend and Mrs. Henderson where very active in historical preservation and genealogy. Reverend Henderson passed away in 1992 at the age of 73 and his wife Jean is still active in many historical and genealogy societies across the United States. Although she has made this survey public domain, I have contact her and asked permission to transcribe her work for the benefit of other researchers. I also wish to thank the wonderful staff of the Silver City Museum for providing me with this documentation.
The cemetery in Silver City was originally located between 10th and 12th streets and Santa Rita and West streets. In 1873 it was noted that the cemetery was in the path of the water lines to the town and it was suggested that it be moved. It wasn’t until 1882 that they started removing the residents of the original cemetery to its present location. It was discovered that people had been burying there loved ones at the new location for some time before it was designated as the city cemetery. The crude markers had long since turned to dust making it impossible to know who is buried in many of the locations. Old obituaries were checked to help in finding the names of persons that were buried there, as indicated by the notation "unknown location". HISTORICAL MARKER

Groveplace Cemetery
Chili, New York This cemetery is located on the southeast corner of Chili Avenue and Marshall Road. The tombstones in this cemetery have been copied twice before. In July 1928 a six page list of inscriptions was made by Mary T. Douglas of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Then in 1973 a 26 page list of inscriptions was made by the Gates-Chili Middle School Yorker Club. These two earlier lists were combined and checked by Richard T. Halsey against the tombstones during the months of June through August of 1992. This lists also adds approximately 3700 more inscriptions including some from the 1800s.
