Contact Admissions Office Keble Undergraduate Admissions Colleges information > Keble One of the intentions behind the foundation of Keble (the name commemorates John Keble, 1792-1866, poet, priest and leader of the Oxford Movement) was to make an Oxford education more widely accessible. The college retains this aim. We accept about 130 undergraduates annually from all types of school and social background. Keble is a member of the Oxford Access Scheme and encourages applications from schools that do not regularly send candidates to Oxford. Location Keble College is at the corner of Keble Road and Parks Road, just across from the Science Area, Radcliffe Science Library and the University Parks, while other facilities, such as the Maths Institute, Pitt Rivers Museum, Computing Service and Language Centre, are close by. Accommodation and meals Keble can normally offer all undergraduates accommodation for their first two years and most who are in their third or final year. Students in their final year do not have to move out during the vacations, minimising disruption in the run-up to final examinations. Our 360 rooms are centrally heated and well furnished. Some 250 have en-suite facilities; the remainder have their own washbasins with adjacent toilets and shower rooms. Some second or third years are accommodated in nearby houses. Ramps, a flat front entrance to the college and a lift to Hall provide essential access for wheelchair disabled students. Candidates with other disabilities should not be deterred from applying. The college retains the custom of dining formally in Hall with waiter service each night except Saturday. All other meals are self service. At breakfast and lunch the items are charged individually. The college provides a selection of vegetarian dishes and caters for special diets.

All Saints, Hursley Bellringers: General Information (back main page) Bellringing and Hursley Few sounds are more evocative of traditional England than those of church bells. They are rung to mark national occasions of joy and sadness as well as calling the faithful to worship. Church bells are so ingrained in our subconscious that when a television programme wants to convey a Sunday all it needs is a recording of bells in the background and we instinctively know. An English wedding somehow feels incomplete without the sound of the bells heralding the happy couple as they leave the church. Whilst bells are common in many churches throughout the world, the art of change ringing began in England during the 16th century. It is practised mainly in England and in isolated corners of some other English speaking countries. Listen to bells being rung in churches overseas. The sound is made by the random swinging of their bells.Contrast this with English change ringing where bells are rung full circle under the precise control of a ringer. One ringer for each bell. It is this precision that gives change ringing its characteristic English sound. All Saints Church in Hursley has a fine ring of ten bells. Every Sunday, they are rung by one of most able bands of bell ringers in Hampshire. The Church Built by John Keble (1792 1866) John Keble was Pro­fess­or of po­e­try at Ox­ford in 1831. He laid the found­a­tion of the Ox­ford Move­ment in 1833 and was the priest at Hursley from 1835 until his death. His body is buried in the Churchyard.
