John Hallowell's description of Vintage A Team Race at the 2001 Australian Model Aircraft National Championships held at Albury/Wodonga. The Vintage A Team Race at Albury was one of the most anticipated races for a long time. Quite simply, it was an exercise to see who had the best version of the venerable Oliver Tiger. And to find out who could could get the most speed and laps from it. Would the winner come from the record holding Kerr / Rothwell specials, the specially prepared Olly replicas of engine guru Stan Pilgrim, or motors that have had the 'laying on of hands' by California engine whiz Tim Gillott? Time would provide an answer, although most likely a temporary one. The battle is only just beginning. Interstate rivalry is a great thing as it keeps everyone on their toes. Yet the spirit of co-operation between the states is alive and well. Like Andy Kerr helping out the gun team of Wilson / Ellins with specially prepared motors. It will be very interesting to see what Mark McDermott comes up with for Toowoomba. No one in this country has been practising as consistently fast as he has. He is capable of a couple of seconds for ten under what most were doing in Albury. And he gets close on 60 laps. In practice just before the event, Keith Baddock was goggle eyed when he counted Andy and Richard Justic doing 105 laps non-stop !!! Maybe it has something to do with the Hallowell / Baddock team's struggle to achieve a relatively modest 45 laps on a regular basis with their "Timmy Tiger"!

44. Short Story - Brent Kerr
Short Story. by Brent Kerr When we get there, there's an old guy there with a funnyhat and beard; Frank identifys him right away. Oh my god, it's Stan Lee. .
http://english.eliz.tased.edu.au/wr_workshop/poems/wwrk97/brentkss.htm
Short Story
by Brent Kerr "But I can't write stories." It's true, I can't. "Oh, Jason, just make something up, your in grade nine now you should be able to handle a simple story." She's making this out to be easy, but it's not really. "I dunno how." "I'm sure you've lied before, just tell me a long version of why you didn't do your home work." Ha ha, very funny, but I'll give it a go anyway. It was a dark and stormy night. "Whatever you do, don't start with something stereotyped like; 'it was a dark and stormy night.' because that sounds a bit silly." Jeez, I can't do anything right, I'm never gonna get a good idea. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! "That's the fire alarm," the teacher says, "I'm sure it's just a drill, you should all know it so let's go down the hall." On the way out there are kids running all over the place yelling "FIRE FIRE" and stuff like that. All I can think about is the stupid story. As we walk out I see smoke coming out of one of the windows, how cool, this is so really cool. "Students," that's the principal talking over the PA, "Due to a fire, the school will be closed for the rest of the day."

Luton club web site On to perhaps the fastest track in the series, Luton. The track is superbly smooth with a variety of fast and slow curves. An amazing 41 drivers arrived from Bath, Bournemouth, Dowty, Ipswich, Netley, North London, Oaklands, Roedale, Timaru and Luton. Nick Thrower arranged extra pit space and accommodated everyone with ease. The crowds did surprise Nick's family doing the excellent catering but 1 don't think anyone starved! Left - Nick and Ian on Race control (photo Stan Kirk) Falcons - First Win for Mick Kerr A new record of 15 entries. It was first time in the series for Simon Francis, John Ovens and Stan Alton. I'm not sure this slot racing star through the ages should be a Novice really but... Paul Stacey took first win of the day in the D race from Heather and Sarah both asserting that they hated the track! Simon Francis emerged in the lead of the C race from a 1 st lap pile up and then won comfortably from a great battle between Dan T and Sandy P, ahead of Bill Jenner. The B final was won comfortably by Alan Callaghan from Eddie Grice then Graham Sampson just ahead of Stan Kirk. Two new faces in the A final but Mick Kerr took an eady lead and despite Sam Thrower's best efforts very gradually pulled out a lap lead by the finish. Stan Alton 3d and a good run by John Ovens in 4 in staying well in touch.

Production
It was the hottest day of the year and 21 racers decided to avoid sunburn by tackling the Production class, arriving from Bath, Wellingborough, Roedale, Luton, North London, Ipswich and of course Timaru. Practice showed the need to learn the track carefully. It was particularly important not to confuse the long and short straights that run parallel, as several were to discover throughout the day.

The Herd escaped Peden Stadium with a 24-21 win over the Bobcats when OU's Kevin Kerr missed a 47-yard field goal with only :25 remaining in the game. "I let my coaches down, the fans down, and my teammates down," said Ohio kicker Kevin Kerr just minutes after he missed a potential game-tying 47-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining. Kerr's miss not only secured Marshall 's win over the Bobcats, but it also unleashed two other rewards: Marshall won the MAC East division title outright, plus secured an invitation to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile

[[vorbis-dev] FLAC patch for oggenc: Round 2]
From: Stan Seibert ( volsung@mailsnare.net
Date: Thu 09 Jan 2003 - 00:38:00 EST The latest patch to allow oggenc to read FLAC files is up at:
http://www.ph.utexas.edu/~volsung/patches/

Now both native FLAC and Ogg FLAC files can be read. Comments should in
theory be preserved coming from either FLAC or Ogg FLAC. I cannot
figure out how to make an Ogg FLAC file that has comments, so I've only
tested it with normal FLAC. (Any tips would be appreciated here.)
Note the warnings, though:
* This will only build on FLAC 1.0.4. FLAC 1.0.3 has a different API.
* There appear to be some lingering rounding issues (not audible, but

This fascinating and lavishly illustrated history of Alberta's oldest professional artists' society documents and celebrates the development of the province's strong and vibrant artistic community. It honours the work of great Alberta artists of the past and gives an insight into today's established and emerging talents. There are anecdotes and brief biographical sketches of some of the province's most prominent artists, such as A.C. Leighton, Maxwell Bates, H.G. Glyde, Marion Nicoll, Illingworth Kerr, Stan Perrott, and Janet Mitchell.
No comprehensive account of the Society's rich history has existed until now. In addition, many of the paintings reproduced here are from private collections. According to historian Max Foran, this chronicle "adds significantly to the existing historiography of art in Alberta." Cathy Mastin, Senior Curator of Art, Glenbow Museum, notes that "the book documents some important moments in Alberta's visual arts history, makes a significant contribution to the study of art societies in Canada, [and] offers new information on the Alberta Society of Artists that is not available in other publications on Alberta art."

The University has selected Donald Kerr, Professor in the Department of English, as the first recipient of the Distinction in Public Service and Extension Award. Prof. Kerr earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree (1958) at the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of Arts (1960) at the University of Toronto. He began his career at the U of S in 1960 as an instructor in the Department of English, and has served as Acting Head of both the English and Drama departments. Prof. Kerr is not only a fine teacher inspired by a love of the arts and history, he is also a renowned author, historian, poet, and playwright with a keen interest in society and politics, community development and the heritage movement. Both as a published poet and associate editor for the literary magazines Grain and NeWest Review, he has nourished the careers of countless Prairie writers. Kerr has been the press editor for 17 books. He has also served on the board of directors for both NeWest Press and Coteau Books for 20 years. His numerous plays have been performed in Saskatoon and Regina, and one of his plays, Lanc, was performed for the Drama department's 50th anniversary in 1996. He has served on the SaskFilm board and Saskatchewan Arts Board where his advocacy of smaller arts organizations helped to keep them alive.
