Duration: 1998 to now S-Lander The L-Lander on Cu(100) The L-Lander was designed for its internal 1.22 nm distance between the front and the back legs to be larger than the 0.7 nm of the simple Lander: the steric crowding between the legs is very small, offering a good conformational adaptability of the molecule to adsorb on a surface. An adsorbed L-Lander shows up in the STM images as 4 elongated lobes in a nearly rectangular configuration with no intramolecular contrast associated with the central board. As for many molecules of the Lander series, only the legs of the L-Lander are imaged. The central board is maintained by the legs too far away from the surface for its molecular orbitals to be electronically coupled enough to the surface. Experimental images were analysed and compared with calculated images based on an optimisation of the geometry of the legs to extract the adsorbed conformation of the molecule. The adsorption is dominated by the van der Waals interaction of the molecular board with the metal surface which forces the legs to rotate and to twist around their attaching bond to the board.

We have primary responsibility for archiving all continuous GPS data in southern California ( Figure 1 ), and parallel responsibility (with JPL) for generating daily position time series. We are responsible for maintaining SCIGN sites in Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, and San Diego Counties. YB is currently chairman of the SCIGN Coordinating Board and Executive Committee. Dreger Seismological Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley Abstract. The proximity in time (~7 years) and space (~20 km) between the 1992 M =7.3 Landers earthquake and the 1999 M =7.1 Hector Mine event suggests a possible link between the quakes. We thus calculated the static stress changes following the 1992 Joshua Tree/Landers/Big Bear earthquake sequence on the 1999 M M =7.1 earthquake. The October 16, 1999 M =7.1 Hector Mine earthquake occurred about 20 km northeast of the 1992 M =7.3 Landers earthquake in southern California (Plate 1). The proximity of the two ruptures raises the question whether the Hector Mine quake was advanced by static stress changes [e.g., Harris , 1998, and references contained therein] caused by the 1992 Joshua Tree/Landers/Big Bear earthquake sequence. We investigate the relationship between these earthquakes by using previously defined slip models for the Landers sequence [e.g., Wald and Heaton Hudnut et al.
