Movies Tuesday, Apr 01, 2003 Video/DVD Posted on Fri, Dec. 20, 2002 Lane's performance, deleted scenes elevate 'Unfaithful' BY RENE RODRIGUEZ Miami Herald The 'Unfaithful' DVD includes some interesting deleted scenes, as well as an alternate ending. A surefire Best Actress nominee for next year's Academy Awards, the underrated Diane Lane gives the performance of her career in Unfaithful (Fox Home Entertainment, $30) as a married woman who cheats on her husband (Richard Gere) with another man (Olivier Martinez), with tragic consequences. That plot description makes Unfaithful sound like just another variation on the theme of marital infidelity that has served director Adrian Lyne in the past ( Fatal Attraction Indecent Proposal ). But Lane's raw, sensual and uninhibited portrayal of a wife and mother whose sexual appetite upends her life elevates the movie into something much more penetrating and lasting than a glossy conversation piece.

Here did you stand, so shy and sweet,
With face turned to the moss-grown way
That William trod with eager feet
To you, at end of day. Above you, tinted apple-blooms
Showered their leaves across the lane,
And round you stole the soft perfumes
Old cottage scents that rise at dusk
From rosemary and jessamine,
The passionate warm breath of musk,
And odorous woodbine. The blush of girlhood is not yours, You are a woman grave and fair; Yet in your eyes your youth endures, And in your sunset hair. Across the fields at eventide With jaunty step, and smile elate, He came and sought you, bluebell-eyed, Tryst-keeping at the gate. And, "Sweetheart, hast thou waited long?" And, "Nay, love, but a little space:"

The Monolithic Dome
Homes Schools Sports ... Site Map Return on Investment by David B. South July 2002 Return on Investment or ROI is what we make on what we invest. If we buy a $30,000 rental unit with our own money and rent it for $435 per month ($100 per week), we receive 1.45% per month ROI. This is a net return, if we have no costs of renting, such as vacancy, depreciation, interest, maintenance, management, etc. If we could get 1.45% per month with no costs, we would be doing nothing short of fantastic. But renting always has costs. If we can hold the costs to 20% of the income, we still get a very nice ROI of 1.16% per month, or nearly 14% per year (80% of 435 is $348. $348/$30,000 = 1.16%). This is especially good in today's investment climate. In the next step, we factor in borrowed money a complicated, but not impossible, process. Let's say we made a down payment of $10,000 of our own money and we borrowed $20,000 from a bank at 9% interest, with a 15-year pay out. Our monthly payment on the debt will be $202.85 principal and interest. After costs and payment, we have $145 per month. This results in a monthly ROI of 1.45% on our initial $10,000 investment, plus repaying the loan in 15 years. So, no matter how you look at it, you have an actual ROI of 2% to 3% per month on the $10,000.

In the character of Helen Huntingdon, Anne Bront‘ has produced a stronger testament to feminism than either of her sisters. Like many such heroines, however, Helen is headstrong, and her ensuing marriage is filled with brutality and shame. When Helen finally escapes her alcoholic husband's tyranny, she has to support both herself and her young son. Gilbert Markham, who has fallen in love with the unfortunate woman, narrates much of the story in letters to a friend, while the rest comes from Helen's own journal. Alex Jennings, who reads Markham's letters, gives us a strong sense of the youth's energy and frustration, while Jenny Agutter, who reads Helen's journal, never loses sight of the powerful heroine's threatened dignity and immense personal control. Both of these accomplished actors combine to create a moving and eloquent narration. Of the three Bronte sisters, Emily and Charlotte are better known, yet it is Anne's work which carries some of the strongest feminist themes. In
