Song
By Richard Le Gallienne
She's somewhere in the sunlight strong,
Her tears are in the falling rain,
She calls me in the wind's soft song,
And with the flowers she comes again.
Yon bird is but her messenger,
The moon is but her silver car; Yea! Sun and moon are sent by her, And every wistful, waiting star. May is building her House
By Richard Le Gallienne
May is building her house. With apple blooms
She is roofing over the glimmering rooms;
Of the oak and the beech hath she builded its beams,
And, spinning all day at her secret looms,
With arras of leaves each wind-swayed wall
She pictureth over, and peopleth it all With echoes and dreams, And singing of streams. May is building her house. Of petal and blade, Of the roots of the oak, is the flooring made, With a carpet of mosses and lichen and clover, Each small miracle over and over, And tender, traveling green things strayed. Her windows, the morning and evening star, And her rustling doorways, ever ajar With the coming and going Of fair things blowing, The thresholds of the four winds are. May is building her house. From the dust of things She is making the songs and the flowers and the wings;

Richard Garnett (1835-1906) was an English man of letters and Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum. Sir Edmund William Gosse (1849-1928) was an English poet and critic. Together they wrote English literature: an illustrated record . (London: Heinemann, 1903-1906. 4 vols.)

This collection is comprised of two letters. The first letter, dated 1896 and written on British Museum stationary bearing an impression of the British Arms, was written by Garnett to "My dear Forman," regarding a Museum copy of Hero and Leander .
