Il Le l romano-etrusca. e Eliphas Levi (pseudonimo di Alphonse Elizabeth Rodins Pennel (C.G. Leland: A Biography, 2 vol i Constable & Co, New York, 1906) viene riportato che nel 1888 il Leland fu "iniziato" in un culto stregonico ancora attivo in certe regioni italiane e denominato "della Toscana-Romagna" da una strega che si celava sotto lo pseudonimo di "Maddalena". E fu la stessa strega che, un anno prima, a Colle Val d'Elsa, aveva consegnato al Le l and un manoscritto — un vero e proprio Libro del Comando — dal quale sarebbe poi de rivata la sua opera principale. Wicca written by Susanne Bowlby aka Sunny With the beginning of the persecutions by the Christian (catholic) church, The Craft went underground and became a very secretive society. Except for those involved, almost no one knew anything about the old ways. This state of affairs lasted for centuries, until a well traveled Englishman, Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903), obtained information in 1897 about a very old and secret religion, about which he wrote his book "Aradia: or the Gospel of the Witches". Leland's book went virtually unnoticed, overshadowed by the more highly publicized occult and spiritualistic secret societies of that time. 15-20 years later, Dr. Margaret Alice Murray, and Egyptologist of staff at University college (London, England), received information that witchcraft was the remnants of an ancient, pre Christian, fertility oriented religion. Apparently, the idea interested her enough to find out for herself. She started her research after discarding all preconceived notions about witchcraft. During her research she reviewed virtually all of the old canon (Christian church) laws and records. She was able to verify that not only does witchcraft have nothing to do with the Christian Satan, but that the church knew this from the beginning. The results of Dr. Murray's research were published in her book: "The Witch Cult in Western Europe". The surprising thing about Murray's research is that while her work parallels much of Leland's research, she seems to have been completely unaware of Leland's book published 22 years earlier.

Index of Third-Party Works Biographical Sketch Oscar Fingal O'Flaherty Wills Wilde, born in 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, was the second son of Sir William Robert and Lady Jane Francesca Wilde. At the age of ten, Wilde entered the well-known Portora Royal School, where he excelled in Greek studies. His interest in Greek continued at Trinity College, Dublin, where John Mahaffy, an eminent Greek scholar who later took Wilde on a tour of Italy, was his tutor. Wilde was awarded a scholarship in classics from Magdalene College, Oxford, which he entered in 1874. During his fourth year at Oxford, Wilde won the prestigious Newdigate Prize for imitative poetry with a verse praising Ravenna, a city he had visited with Mahaffy and the burial site of Dante. In addition to his studies, Wilde began to develop his role as poseur and aesthete. Wilde received his BA in 1878 and, after an additional year at Oxford, went to London where he began writing. In 1880 Wilde published Vera; or, The Nihilists, and in 1881 he was hired by Richard D'Oyly Carte to boost Gilbert and Sullivan's new opera Patience in America by means of a lecture tour. Dressed in black velvet and a full length fur coat, he spoke on the new aestheticism from New York to San Francisco. He met with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louisa May Alcott, Walt Whitman, and Jefferson Davies, among others.
