Giles Chapman Prelude
Giles Chapman of Bridlington and his Descendants
in 1976. On the title page he gives special credit to Cora Lee Carroll Blease, Genevieve Broome Jones and Alma Hill Robertson. Dr. Chapman was a subscriber to the now defunct Chapman Chatter and is member #231 of the Chapman Family Association . In a letter to Gil Alford dated August 6, 1983 he wrote: "Incidentally, please consider this my written authorization for you to use material from "Giles Chapman of Bridlington" as you wish." At that time he provided a computer listing of all of the many contacts he had made during the compilation of his outstanding genealogy. Over the last 20 years additional data has been received from Donald R. Chapman, Stuart P. Dowling, Gerald Ford, Betsy Chapman Harrison, Genevieve Jones, Judith E. Jefferson, Inez McCullor, Nellie Jane MacDonald, Llew McCrea, Patricia A. Thomas and Beverley J. White. Following Dr. Chapman's front pages will be the beginning of an updated genealogy of Giles Chapman.

Flowers from Hell: Introduction (edited)
by Nikolas Schreck
As Lucifer - “light-bearer” in Latin - he is the proud and beautiful rebel angel, expelled from paradise in his quest for liberty. As Satan, Hebrew for “accuser” or “obstructer”, he reigns over his kingdom from Hell's exalted throne. He became the Devil via translation from the Greek Diabolos, or “slanderer”. These simple nouns have been transmogrified into personal names through the dense accretion of religio-mythic resonance. What does this Babel of ancient tongues tell us about the mysterious intelligence they symbolize? Despite the proliferation of names mankind has used to summon him and damn him, this sinister hypostasis remains ultimately nameless, a dynamic personality that eludes all attempts at codification. The terminology of less familiar mythologies holds important keys to the nature of this puzzling deity. In Slavic demonology, he has been quite precisely referred to as Drugoy - the Other. A sacred sense of otherness, of estrangement from the familiar structures of known reality, heralds the gnosis of darkness. The mysterious Toltec war god Tezcatlipoca, revered by the fierce creators of the Aztec civilization, was recognized with dread by the Spanish conquerors of Mexico as a Mesoamerican form of Satan. Their Bible warned of that “old enemy” the Devil, and the heathen priests of Tezcatlipoca referred to their patron deity as Yaotl Ihuic Necoc, Old Enemy Against Both Sides. This little known Aztec phrase captures the essence of the dark divinity, never more in its element than when at war. From the destruction that follows in the wake of this vital state of energized conscious conflict, new realities are created. Iconoclastic poet William Blake, always a Devil's advocate, put it succinctly: “Without contraries is no progression”.
