Mrs. Susan M. HUNTER, whose maiden name was GARNER, was the daughter of W.B. GARNER, and was born in Kentucky in March 1821. Her mother was of German extraction, and the entire family were noted for robust, healthy constitution. They came to Illinois when Mrs. HUNTER was quite young. At an early age she was married to Drake LOCKWOOD; whose death left her a widow. She afterward married James A. WHITESIDE, who was a widower with quite a large family. After Mr. WHITESIDES' death she retained the fascinating charms of a beautiful young woman, and was married to Robert O. HUNTER, who died several years ago. She was the mother of six or seven children; four of whom are now living, viz: John LOCKWOOD by her first husband; S.D. WHITESIDES and Sidney McFARLAN, by her second husband, and Belle GOODRICH by her third husband. As a step-mother she reared a large family of children for her second husband. She died of congestion of the bowels, Sept. 6, 1889; having been sick only about thirty-six hours. Dr. W.J.J. PARIS was called to administer to her relief, but her malady was so severe, and had been so rapid in its work, as to render medical skill abortive.

These data were compiled by AFHS volunteers in 1994, based on both monument and burial information. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, but human errors are always possible. Confirming the information with personal observation or other sources is always advisable. Basic information has been provided on this website. Burial records obtained from the City of Calgary, show a burial date in the format 23061999 (d/m/yr) When this is the only date available for an individual, it is the one used in the index. Additional information (e.g., monument inscriptions and burial information that may include exact birth and death dates, parents, spouse, etc.) may be available in some cases and can be obtained from the Projects Coordinator, Judie Riddell at safemail("projects","afhs.ab.ca","Projects Chair")

55. The Business Of The Movies
True, I've been a Long time making up my mind, but now I'm giving you a definiteanswer. 7. Joseph Schenck, Loew’s Incorporated. 9. William Fox, Fox Film. 10.
http://www.swt.edu/~rw04/film/history/business_of_the_movies_notes.htm
The Business of the Movies I. Up to now, we've seen relatively few characters moving behind the scenes in the movie business. A. Edison and the Biograph folks equated the movie business with the selling of motion picture equipment. B. Griffith finally did establish an independent film company effecting a separation between equipment and content that was to last. C. However, much of the big story of the movies is the story of the big movie companies, so far absent from our history. II. The Motion Picture Patents Company. A. The early years of the movies had been characterized by chaos over equipment and film. Companies stole from each other and struggled to gain patent rights. B. In 1909, under Edison leadership, the nine major international players came together to form the Motion Picture Patents Company (MPPC), a trust intended to monopolize and control the production and distribution of film equipment and film. Controlled not only equipment, but through a special monopoly deal had unique access to Kodak films as well as distribution rights. C.
