OTTAWA - Nothing stands still in Ian MacLaren’s world for very long. The newly married CEO and president of Kanata, Ont.-based CrossKeys Systems Corp., just back from his honeymoon, has accomplished a lot at his software firm in his first year and a half at the helm.
A large measure of the recent success experienced by CrossKeys, an industry leader in telecommunications and Internet management software, could be attributed to the new philosophy Mr. MacLaren has brought to the company.
“A lot of what I stand for is based in attitude, the attitude that CrossKeys can and will be successful in this worldwide market by continuing to take risks, take pride and take actions on a day to day basis! We are second to none when it comes to getting and staying focused on what we can do to bring value to our customers,” says Mr. MacLaren.
Since coming to CrossKeys, a company that helps over 170 of the world’s largest companies manage their network traffic and equipment, Mr. MacLaren has quickly reshaped the company and given it a new direction. In his short time as president he has spearheaded an effort to change CrossKeys from an engineering firm to a seller of off-the-shelf software products, a strategy that has helped stabilize and increase the revenue for the firm.

by Geoff Lee

OTTAWA - IP, OSS, DyBand.
Those small, and seemingly innocuous acronyms, actually spell big money for Kanata, Ont.-based CrossKeys Systems Corp. CrossKeys, an industry leader in telecommunications and Internet management software, helping over 170 of the world’s largest companies manage their network traffic and equipment, is at a crossroads, poised to become an even greater player in the manufacturing of sofware.
As it plans an expansion of its operations in the Internet protocol and operational support systems sectors, it is slowly emerging from the shadow of its longtime ally and largest customer Alcatel Alsthom SA (formerly Newbridge Networks Corp.). As part of its long-term strategy, CrossKeys is also continuing the development at its recent $10 million purchase of Dynamic Broadband Networks of Allentown, Pennsylvania, which CrossKeys rolled out as their “Dyband” software in May.
Since its birth in 1992, CrossKeys has been riding the coat-tails of the enormously successful Newbridge, the largest consumer of CrossKeys software products —it swallowed up 76 per cent of CrossKeys output in the last fiscal period ending in May— however, the company is slowly emerging from the shadow of its colossal Kanata cousin.

    MKKBB Announcement

MKKBB and the Ian Fleming Foundation have agreed to a number of changes regarding their online partnership. T H E P R E M I E R J A M E S B O N D W E B S I T E ianfleming.org by Hawker, MKKBB special contributor LONDON - More than thirty years ago it was the setting for a golf showdown that's gone down in history film history. No golf history was made the day Bond's guile and sharp putter defeated Auric Goldfinger, but it has made Stoke Park Golf Club part of Bond lore. The Bond connection to the club continued with the first-ever Ian Fleming Celebrity Golf Classic at the club in Stoke Poges, England. The September 25 event was a fundraiser to benefit the Ian Fleming Foundation, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the work of the late Ian Fleming. The Foundation’s goal is to create a permanent museum that will not only showcase the author’s life but also the literary and cinematic heritage of his immortal creation, James Bond 007. ("Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!" is the official web presence of the foundation.

A MEMORIAL SKETCH BY JOHN WATSON (IAN MACLAREN)
    Henry Drummond
"Well played, old chap!" the pure, clear, joyous note rang out on the evening air; "finest thing you've ever done," while the strong-armed, heavy faced slogger stood still and looked at him in admiration, and made amends. "I say, Drummond, it was my blame you were run out ...." Drummond was his name, and some one said "Henry." So I first saw my friend.
"Don't touch me, please I can't shake hands, but I've saved up a first-rate story for you," and his palate was too delicate to pass anything second-rate. Partly this was his human joyousness to whom the absurdities of life were ever dear; partly it was his bravery, who knew that the sight of him brought so low might be too much for a friend. His patience and sweetness continued to the end, and he died as one who had tasted the joy of living and was satisfied.

E-mail: bruce_d_mclaren@hotmail.com History of MacLarens in Australia and New Zealand In the extensive emigration from the old world in the latter part of the nineteenth century, the majority of the emigrants chose North America in preference to Australia and New Zealand. The westward voyage under sail across the Atlantic could take one month, but at least three times longer if travelling to Australia or New Zealand. When a Scottish family chose to emigrate, its members did not always choose the same destination. Australians of Scottish decent, including MacLarens, have found cousins in North America and vice versa. This point should be kept in mind by family historians; for example, a person "missing" from a family which migrated to Australia or New Zealand in 1860, may be "found" in the American records. Many migrant Scots named places in their new country "after home". So in Australia we have Appin, Scone and Sterling - to name a few. And the seaport of Dunedin in New Zealand takes its name from the earlier one of Edinburgh. Some MacLarens named their properties or houses Balquhidder.
